I'm sure as training camp & the games evolve that everything is subject to change. But it seems that the vets will get first dibs starting out the gate.

Quote:
Coach Byron Scott revealed Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Carlos Boozer, and Jordan Hill are all penned in as starters, leaving applauded acquisitions Jeremy Lin and 2014 first-round selection Julius Randle to come off the bench.

The pre-season is - at its minimum - an assessment period of players and player combos for any coach, most of all for a first year staff. Gotta start with some plan, so let the old guys have their shot and fail ...

I'm sorry I had to lol. We can't be fielding these ancient lineups in today's run and gun NBA.

I love the guy, but seriously he needs to at least come off the bench.

I know people say he needs to start because his body will still be warm from warm ups...but screw that! We'll be starting a whole lot of games witha deficit if he starts. His body just can't do it anymore. They need to put him on an exercise bike in the back or something to stay warm until he gets subbed in. The Lakers need to infuse some youth with the vets so that they can still keep up with other teams.

Lin
Bryant
Johnson
Boozer or Randle
Hill or Davis

Some variation of that would be my starting lineup

Good lordie. That's the worst defensive lineup we've put out in a long time. Hope Lin beats of Nash.

if nash can actually play, it makes sense. he's probably better in that 2-guard role than Lin.

Sounds about right heading into camp. Things will change once the regular season starts.

People still believe Nash as the best pg even though the man cannot carry a team for more that 15 min per game.
Imho Nash is best coming off the bench and playing the least possible minutes.

Scott will spend training camp figuring out his starting lineup, which he says will currently feature Nash, Bryant, Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill. He is leaning toward starting Wesley Johnson at small forward because of his defensive potential and relying on Nick Young’s prolific scoring off the bench. Scott also reported Xavier Henry has not fully recovered from left wrist and right knee injuries.

Scott will then add plenty of drills catered to the Lakers’ conditioning and defense, something so intense Scott will place four trash cans in each corner of the court. Said Scott: “I don’t want guys throwing up on my floor.”

The linked article in the OP has a link to the Daily News article which says the above. Sounds like this is just his default starting line up for the initial practices. You have to start somewhere.

Like the trash can drill. Sounds intense.

For some reason coaches think Nash can thrive in offenses like the Princeton, pro sets etc. The truth is Nash is not the type to play his best on any offense unless it is run and gun, pick n roll, or pick n pop 3 point sets. He's tailor made for MDA & European type offenses that are not intended to have any post up play slow down offense but mostly guard play.
When Nash slows down he loses his advantage his greatest strength being passing and those 3pt shooters and open lanes of a wide open game are not available other offenses.
The biggest problem is that he's slowed down and he's game offensively is not there anymore to do anything else.
The Lakers have to stop the 3pt shooting barrage of last year, and bring the game closer to basket. They need to keep other teams from running on them out of long rebounds, they simply don't have the speed to keep up the defense. I know Scott wants to stop the long shots but he needs a better penetrating guard at this point than Nash. Imho Lin gets to the basket much better because of his age and quickness.
It's possible Scott will try this out for awhile just to give Nash a chance, but in the end he will switch to Lin.

The starting lineup, as the season moves along, will probably evolve to include both Lin and Randle. Lakers have to develop the younger talent and NOT give in to the politics of it all around the older guys, Kobe aside; lol.
The fifth player will probably be Johnson to bring Young in as a backup SG or SF.

So Scott preaches defense. That starting lineup certainly doesn't reflect it.

You just described Jeremy Lin. Actually I thought Nash played pretty well as a 2-guard during that brief stretch when Kobe went into super passer/playmaker mode.
