Wasn't it just his kid, like a year ago, that was beaten to death by the step-dad or live in bf or something? I would think that would cause a change in him so he WOULDN'T beat his kid. I'll wait for all the facts to come out, but, if he is indeed guilty, then yes, he deserves the same punishment that Ray Rice received.

Even if it was a spanking?

Spanking shouldn't result in CPS getting called. If spanking results in CPS being involved, then it's beyond spanking and he should face the consequences. I'll wait to hear all the facts that get released before passing judgment on what I feel his punishment should be, but this is more than just a 'spanking'.

I know there's some debate on the legitimacy of spanking, in my personal opinion if he used an open hand on his child's butt, I'm OK with that; If he used an object or a closed hand, that to me is excessive and should be treated as abuse.

I think taking away the xbox is abuse in some counties.

I guess I just don't understand why they don't just let the courts deal with criminal matters.

If spanking is NOT hitting, then I agree.

How is spanking not hitting? LOL.

Not all hitting is child abuse. My Dad used to smack me upside the head if I was ignoring him. Not real hard, just a smack. That's not abuse.

As a nation, we're inherently lazy. And so we resort to all-encompassing things like "all hitting is abuse" when that is not only the wrong way to look at it, but it also does a disservice to true victim of abuse.

I give my 2 year old a little smack on the hand or thigh. So, you're saying I hit him? I don't know. I always thought of "hitting" as with a closed fist, foot or, an object.

The NFL is going to take a big step down this year. It has a serious player conduct issue.

Smacking can be abuse too. It's not all or nothing was my point. Not all hitting is abuse, not all smacking is non-abuse.

Not to turn this into a religious thread but, after reading AD's bio, he says "jesus christ" is the world to me.

Funny how these churchies always end up being the most (bleep) up.

Yea. That's a big no no. I would never do anything to my sons that's going to leave permanent damage. So sad. I hate reading stories about kids being abused.

Maybe Peterson didn't pay his child support in time and the kid couldn't get a good meal.

If the pictures are TMZ are accurate, then that wasn't just smacking his kida a few times. He drew blood and there were welts all over that kid's body. My mom used to spank the hell out of me, but I never looked anywhere close to that poor kid.

Sometimes the courts need to stay out of people's personal lives. If a judge or jury are going to pass judgement on parenting, their kids better be perfect, or they don't know the hell what they are talking about.
