Yeah. One of the most underrated and under appreciated players IMO.
I agree. He looks like a combo of Lebron James and Magic Johnson in his high lights and his stats speak for them self, 27ppg, 14rpg, 4.5 apt for a 6-5 small forward is pretty impressive even considering the era that he played in. He could of easily been a 12-13 assists guy if they had used tall point guards back then. Somebody put on his high lights. Another interesting tid bit has a Kobe like personality, who recently had a birth day also.

A very "modern" day player in his hey day. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Check out this video of him. Bring it up the next time ESPN says LeBron James does things that have never been seen before... Elgin beat him to it by 50 years =P

Thanks. Amazing stuff. The only other player i have seen pass like that is Magic.
Elgin's all-time reputation suffers a bit (unfairly, I think) among younger fans from their limited understanding of the game's condition and rules of Baylor's era. I find great satisfaction however, to imagine what further havoc he may have been capable of later, had he been in his prime when ... :
... a full-time trainer and staff were actually employed by his team. Travel teams used to leave their part-time trainer home on road trips and unlike today, relied on (often meager) facilities and talent provided by the opposing club, wherever they played. Players often taped each other up rather than seek help from the road team's man.
... team-chartered flights between cities were the rule, not the playoff only exception.
... annual pay been adequate to relieve players of needing part-time work in the off-season to survive. TV money ? The players didn't see any of it then.
... the one and a half step limit (off the dribble) was not been enforced such as when Magic and Doctor J played. Elgin set the standard for hanging in the air longest of anyone of the pre-ABA era, but no one in Elgin's day was permitted by the rules to get a running start at a hammer dunk. It's not a talent differential.
... palming the ball on the dribble was allowed. Oh boy, what a difference this could have made to guys in Elgin's day in terms of breaking down their man, changing speeds, changing direction. The crossover dribble did not exist then because it was an illegal move to push the ball side to side from the side of the ball. Maravich represents the player who first pushed this boundary in the NBA, just as Elgin was so badly hobbled.
... the MRI and arthroscopic surgery procedures actual existed. 'Nuff staid on this.
... the jump stop actually been permitted. Huge potential for making a positive impact on Elgin's game.
... the three point goal been awarded. The effect of this rule change led to a spreading on the floor, which alone would be something Elgin could have leveraged for driving the ball as well as LeBron does today.
Happy birthday to my favorite Laker of all-time to watch. Our most exciting player, ever.

It was terrible that he was banished to the Clips for decades. Glad to see him back in the fold and showing up for major team events (i.e. jersey retirements). _________________ Smrek 2, Nevitt 1, Barkley 0
