We watched most of a show this week, a "top ten Laker moments show", the one which featured clips from Magic Johnson's playing days. Fun stuff.
It got our family talking that night about which play, or which moment, or which image from our own Laker pasts seemed to be our most treasured, sort of our own personal favorite or strongest mental image.
For me, what flashed immediately to my mind surprised me a little. I saw in my mind and felt the impact of a generalized sequence from the Forum's court.
The play was something that probably happened a few hundred times.
I see a pass thrown by Magic after a single dribble, from the key, out to a streaking James Worthy, who taps a few dribbles ahead of himself while stretched-out full-length and running at full speed, and then his trademark, that one-handed swoop-dunk-flush.
It happened a lot, and it always captured me. That felt immediately like my personal favorite moment of all time, even if I lived it so many times. Even though I intellectually feel strongly about so many moments (the '80 championship game, the first LA Laker title in '72, the junior-junior-junior sky hook of '87, the first championship win over the dreaded Celtics in '85 IN BOSTON, and the Jerry West 47 foot buzzer beater), those aren't the ones which bring back the same level of emotional connection to the Lakers - for me. Funny.

For me oddly it's Magic hitting that half-court buzzer beater three against the Bullets. Odd in that I didn't have cable growing up and would have to listen to the home games on radio. The picture Chick painted was more vivid, I guess.

THIS. Though I've been around for a few titles, this was the sweetest one. Seeing the Celtics walk off our court as losers. Nothing beats that. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

In no order:
Baby Hook
0.4
Big Shot Bob
Kobe at the elbow

Big Shot Rob's shot in game 4 of the 02' WCF is right up there. As well as Lamar Odom throwing the ball up court to closeout Game 7 of the 2010 Finals.
Kobe to Shaq during....well, you all know, don't you
Yes! Those three words... "Kobe to Shaq!" They always make me smile. That game was the best sports memory of my life.
Same for me, the image for me is Shaq running back down towards the Laker bench with his hands in the air _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

Van Exel's last second crazy turn around game winning 3 against the Celtic's at the Garden. Right after those bastards cheated and took the lead.
Game 7, Ronald's 3 only because the cops came to my house cause the noise sounded like someone was being brutally slaughtered.
Kobe to Shaq and Horry for Win are obvious ones. _________________ "The best there is. The best there was. The best there ever will be.", said Bret Hart regarding the Los Angeles Lakers.

Eddie Jones finger roll from atop the key vs. Phoenix at the forum in early 97. Shaq's first game back from a bad knee injury. I attended this game. Of all of the decades of delicious Lakers glory and success, this one move in a meaningless RS game captured all of the joy, the innocence, the sanctimony that you'll hear when some old timer from the midwest starts weeping nostalgic about when his daddy used to take him to Tigers games, except this is basketball so it's actually true. Eddie didn't have to jump from that far out, he could've taken it straight in for a run of the mill dunk, or laid it off to someone else for an easy fast break jam. But he planted his foot, and took flight on the wings of Gabriel and it was symphonic. I was 14. It moved me into a new height of consciousness at which I'd stay until the first time I touched a woman with her consent.
The clip I had bookmarked has been removed by youtube. It's the greatest thing I've ever seen. _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/
