Lucas made 3 bad prequels and deserves blame for that but these next 3 movies (and the countless spinoffs they're also making) are just as much of a cash grab. I'm sure Abrams will make a more competent movie, but there's still the problem of people chasing that feeling of being thrilled by the original Trilogy and that feeling isn't coming back. For my money, Star Wars was a wonderful thing that happened. It's been over for some time now and I intend to keep it that way.

Discarding the EU, which was the only reason SW ever got back on the map after the 80's, isn't going to make the faithful happy. Neither is the fact that none of the new actresses are as hot as Carrie Fisher and Natalie Portman were.

It's the batmobile. At the end of the footage, it was a retort to this...

But from what I gather this should be MUCH better than the prequel's. Bringing back the cast of the original trilogy, the use of more practical effects and dumping the CGI is a brilliant move imho.

The fans relationship to this franchise reminds me of that couple you know that keeps breaking up and trying to make the thing work. "It'll be different this time!"

Yes,

Luke, Han and Leia are coming back to reprise their roles from the original trilogy. Will be episodes 7,8 and 9.

It will be strange to watch a Star Wars film without the signature 20th Century Fox/Lucasfilm music.

JJ Abrams will take George Lucas script and then reverse the order of the characters and call it a new plot.... Just like what he did with the Star Trek reboot.

Luke Skywalker goes back in time after finding a Rambaldi artifact on a mysterious island after battling a big bat creature, crash-landing his X-Wing, and alters the past, creating an alternate future. Now everyone's different.

Luke, now played by Adam Driver, is a dark-haired hipster who instead of dreaming about getting off Tatooine, dreams of chubby-chasing. Leia (Gwen Christie) is now a blond 6'3" tomboy who chokes stormtroopers with her bare hands for fun until she realizes she can use the Force and then chokes them with her thoughts. Han Solo (Oscar Isaac), is no longer a smuggler, but is now a folk singer who replaces his Gollum-looking drummer (Andy Serkis) with Chewbacca, but now the Gollum-looking ex-drummer is out for blood. Lupita Nyong'o is former slave Obi-Wan Kenobi. Max Von Sydow now voices Darth Vader but now with an accent ala Abrams' treatment of Khan.

This may be in jest, but because this can actually happen with Abrams, it's scary.

oohhh Abrams... I am kinda hoping this does not involve the main villain waiting 25 long years floating in space, waiting for some guy to pop out of thin air so said villain can resume his quest for vengeance... I mean... please...

I don't understand why they feel the need to get some "sci fi director" like Abrams. Who cares about directors who have experience making other movies with lasers in them, it's not about that, it's about understanding how to tell a good story and have it resonate with an audience. Abrams is a choice that is ultimately a cash grab but with only a veneer of caring a bit about increasing the quality over the prequels (as if a 5 year old couldn't do that.) Star Wars made too much money for its own good, now no one has interest in the story anymore, it's only about lightsabers and the Star Wars brand that Hollywood cares about. It's worth too much for it to ever land in the hands of someone who cared about the art of it.

It should have been given to writers and a director who know how to make good cinema and have the artistic integrity to learn what SW is about. You don't have to be some sci fi geek to understand what made Star Wars a great film experience. Was Stanley Kubrick a "sci fi director"? No, he was just a great filmmaker and he made the greatest science fiction movie of all time. Science fiction stories are just stories like any else, they're just typically set in space, with futuristic technology. These are just superficial attributes, the fundamentals that make a good story don't change in them.

I know Ocho thinks SW should have been left in the past, but I think the main story, as well as the Star Wars universe as a whole, could've been expanded well in the right hands, but now it will spin out of control as a mediocre excuse for lightsaber duels.

To be fair though, at least the direction he took Star Trek in is more suited for Star Wars. The problem with his Star Trek movies is that Star Trek isn't really an action adventure story, but more of a philosophical one.
