Quote: | Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash hasn't been himself for a couple of seasons now due to various injuries, and at 40 years old he's heading into the final year of his contract. He's openly talked about his career winding down, and he's documented the difficulties associated with that in a video series. Few have high expectations for him now, but he is impressing everybody during scrimmages leading up to training camp, according to Lakers.com's Mike Trudell:
Consistent word from last several weeks has been how good Nash has looked in scrimmages. Really does change dynamic of LAL if he's healthy.
— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) September 23, 2014
It's fair to be skeptical of Nash at 40 being able to stay healthy. He knows that better than anyone. But good signs are good signs.
— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) September 23, 2014
The thing that's kept Nash down for 2 years is the nerve issue (result of broken leg). Word is that's the issue that's improved this summer.

of course it's improved, he hasn't been playing in real NBA games. just like when a player wants to come out of retirement because "he feels the best he has in years," it's because their body isn't being put through the rigors of an NBA season. although i hope he proves me wrong, i'm definitely not getting my hopes up. |

Improved or resolved, that's the question.
Improved? Meh. We've heard that before.
Resolved? Now that is potentially much better news.
Time will tell. |

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I read this. So it's just improved recently, or...? |

If so, Nash should warm up in the second half and start those 20 minutes to begin the third quarter where we usually drop off. Him on fresh legs in Q3 would be nice.... |

It improved at the end of last season. I see him being effective with managed minutes. _________________ Not a legend |

Regardless of improvement he's still 40 and it's going to be tough for him to make an impact. |

Yup, limit Nash to 5 minutes a game is the way I see it. Lin can definitely handle the bulk of the minutes. |

no 15mins/game is enough off the bench.

I'd love to see Nash be able to play one 6-8 minute rotation per half with the bench unit. Let him push the tempo for that unit, create scores for them. If he's feeling real good maybe let him come in at the end of a close game for shooting or creating (although Lin may be fine there). Rest him regularly, letting Clarkson play every few games (and play a ton in D league), so he's ready if anything happens to Nash. _________________ “We must always take sides. For Steve's own sake and not even including basketball I hope he feels better. There is a whole life after basketball for him. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

It's never a bad thing when the nerves in a 63 year old's back is much better. |

Nash looked okay when he was on the floor last season. Hopefully we can get 15 mpg from him for like half the season at least. There's no way he's going to be worth the 9 million hit, but at least we'd be getting something.
I hope Lin starts from the very beginning though. No need to shift him in and out of the starting 5. |

Having a healthy Steve Nash is great for the team. If we aren't in the playoff picture, we can trade him near the trade deadline to teams looking to make he playoff push. |

I remember last summer when Nash was supposedly healthy and he even tried out for a soccer team although it was just a good gesture by the team. Soon after, the nerve issues came back before the season even began.
I hope they meant, by saying that this is the area that has improved this summer, that Nash's nerve issues are not resurfacing and in those scrimmages there hasn't been any signs or symptoms. That this summer and this time it's different.
Time will tell and If all is well we will have a hell of a team. |

Look for a huge year from Nash. He isn't going out like last year, no way and I have been saying so for months.
Big enough season gets him 1 year contract extension $5.8 million. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

At 40 it will be an accomplishment. I don't see his body holding up for more than 10-15 mins a game. Will find out soon, I guess. |
