This is so exciting!!

Quote:
While the veteran spent all of last offseason recuperating from Achilles surgery, he's been healthy this summer, steadily preparing his comeback.

"He's been working every day. I get reports. I've seen him personally," said Kupchak. "I know he's working and speaking with [Coach] Byron [Scott] on a daily or semi-daily basis."

"If he walked into the room, or he walked on the court and ran up and down the court, you couldn't tell he blew out an Achilles tendon or broke a bone in his knee last year," continued Kupchak. "He looks conditioning-wise, his weight is great. I think he's down 10-12 pounds over last year. There's no limp."

The Lakers didn't make any drastic moves to improve over the offseason. Pau Gasol left to join the Chicago Bulls but the team added rookie Julius Randle, veteran Carlos Boozer and re-signed scoring guard/forward Nick Young to a long-term deal.

The team tried to lure stars like LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony this summer, but were unsuccessful.

Bryant will have to be the key to whatever success the team has this season.

"I think you'll see a player, similar to what you saw two years ago," said Kupchak. "He'll do as much as he has to do to put us in the best chance to win."

The one man band thing has never worked for Kobe. But if he plays well he could at least put the Lakers on the map for a while until the FO does get a couple of stars and rebuilds...

Best case scenario is that the chemistry of this team is insane, Nash has a retirement year renaissance, and Kobe plays to his full potential, one last time. That team could make waves, like 2008.

Kobe dropped 10-12 pounds? Kobe was 205 lbs last year. Unless he lost weight cause he gained a little over the summer. Or Kobe really weighs now at 195 lbs and he's a stick.

Pretty much what I've been saying. Kobe this offseason, has been able to train unlike he has last year.

So they say he's looking "Very Good" in 5 on 5 and now Mitch with this. I haven't heard "Explosive" or "Elevation."

Makes me worry a bit I must admit.

Saying you'll see the same Kobe you saw in 2012 is an indication I'd assume.

I'm hoping so. 27.3/6.0/5.6 on 47% shooting. I'd take that.

I think so. Everyone is off the HGH. I don't think it's the case for Kobe though. If you remember, he gained some weight staying off his legs for a while....I think it spent a good part of the summer training and lost all that weight and then some. If he's at 205, it'll put a much lower load on his joints and help him get into shape faster as well.

I heard someone questioning his conditioning and whether he'd be in game shape by the start of the season. I fully expect him to be in game shape by the start of the season.

^ Conditioning and game shape are two completely different things.

Thats what I think we'll see is something pretty close to 2012 Kobe.

Yeah, I said January before but I could see late December too. And by rounding in to form, for me, I'm talking a string of games in the low 20s on good percentages. Not the 22 pt game that is flankef by a 12 and 16 pt effort even though that's the "see eat crow" game for sure.

I have no clue what to think. I will say this, the Jeter/Kobe synergy is freaky. Both came in 1996, both played for one team. Both were Kings of their city and only one city, both went to 7 final series, won 5. Both got the same flack for getting paid for what they had done then what they are doing. Both got season ending injuries after being extremely durable their whole careers. In the same year, no doubt. Just weird how they parallel so much. There's probably more too.

Kobe had a fat gut this summer in that shirtless beach photo. 10-12 pounds is a good start and will probably drop few more pounds as the season gets on the way.
