Tomorrow ( Saturday September 27th) will mark the end of Saturday Morning cartoons on Network TV.
As of now, there are no plans to renew ANY contracts for Saturday morning cartoons on network TV.
Grab a bowl of cereal, wake up early with the kids, and share a piece of your childhood, one last time.

I know I'm old.
But I never thought I'd be sooooo old that the idea of waking up to Saturday morning cartoons would be staggeringly obsolete.
The new "When I was a kid, we had to walk 2 miles to school in the snow" is now, "When I was a kid, if we wanted to watch cartoons we had to get out of bed by 7 in the morning and only had 3 channels to choose from".

Sorry. Just had to @ that.....
Saturday mornings for me as a kid consisted of waking up all early when I didn't have to in order to catch Kids Inc, Scooby Doo, all things Hanna-Barbara, and the WWF. Ah, the best of times. _________________ The butter's hard and the eggs are chillin' in the dark.
The 90's were basically the peak of cartoons on network TV. Remember then they used to show cartoons everyday after school on network tv?
In California in the 80's, it was channels 11 and 13 that would show cartoons from 2:30 until 5:30. The peak was Thundercats/Voltron/Robotech/GI Joe/Transformers/He-Man/M.A.S.K. mid-80s epoch of kids cartoons. That was followed up by 30 minutes of news and would segue-way into Three's Company. Good times!

You're crazy. late 60's early 70's. Speed Racer, Simba the White Iion, Gigantor, plus the old HB shows with Bugs and Daffy and every one else. Oh, the good old days.
Give me a spot in front of the TV, one of my World Book Encyclopedias and I was good for the day. _________________ “It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”

Hell (bleep) yeah! The toys for those shows were cheese money! I personally can brag and say that I had the pleasure of owning at least one from each show. I even had the Castle Grayskull....trap door and all...was the envy of my block, yo. _________________ The butter's hard and the eggs are chillin' in the dark.
So not only does my youth die biologically, but also in terms of spirit...What a (bleep) travesty.
You're crazy. I'm 51. I remember when I was 30. That was definitely my youth. _________________ “It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”

I remember Saturday morning cartoons but also after school 'toons. 80's and 90's were a great time to be a kid.
***Somewhat related side story*****
I remember one time after school-- my younger brother and I were watching cartoons (I think it was Animaniacs) and the programming was interrupted to show a high speed pursuit. We watched as the driver led the police on a chase on some fwy and then tried to light some kind of bomb or something INSIDE his vehicle. That didn't work out too well and he ended up stopping in the middle of the freeway. I think he had a dog inside with him that ran off as he parked.
The guy gets out of the truck and lays a blanket down on the road that says something about HMO's. You can see he has some kind of agenda and at that moment I realized it was going to end badly. He is yelling at the cops who have their guns drawn and he pulls out a rifle from his truck. He takes the rifle to the center median and props it up with the barrel facing the sky. Mind you, the camera's are showing this from a helicopter and the clarity is pretty damn good.
He says a couple last things and reaches down to depress the trigger and BAM.... his head explodes. The cameras pulled away and my brother and I were left in shock. That's the day TV cartoons REALLY died. For me at least.
JK. But man, that was awful. We were hesitant to watch after school cartoons after that.... _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same."

I say that because it was a time period when they showed cartoons in the morning and right after school ended in the late afternoon. A good mix of old cartoons and new content.

That was the reason why they no longer do close ups for police chases. I'm sure for some young kids watching some dude blast himself to pieces to live tv was traumatic. I remember the cameras showed a close up after there was nothing left of his head and blood pouring out of his body. I think the TV stations were criticized after that incident so they all changed their coverage after that.

They did it in the 80s too. Morning and full run in the weekday afternoosn. It just continued into the 90s. They'd throw in the old school Speed Racers, Tranzor Z's etc to boot.

That and WWF Saturday Night Main Event.
You never had any (bleep) clue what time or even which Saturday it would air. But every now and then when you randomly ran into it at 1:30 in the morning it was almost as wonderful as finding a descrambled porn channel. _________________ "The best there is. The best there was. Mid 90s Disney Afternoon and Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures and Pinky and the Brain. Hell, I used to wake up at 5:30 to catch Bots Master, too. Damn, those were the days.
Gargoyles blew everything out of the water. I still remember the sick feeling I got in my stomach when they replaced that awesome show with The Mighty Ducks *shudder*
