If not, like the majority of players in the NBA, he's going to have to embrace and learn how to fit into any team's system. |
You keep saying that but that's what he did. He tried to play in Byron's system and adjusted his game. He played slower ball with Kobe, Hill and Boozer. He played off-ball as a Rocket, he played off-ball some as a Laker. It's not like he didn't learn to play in whatever system was there. It's just he played better with the spacing and PnR player (Davis, sometimes Black) that exploited his strengths as a basketball player. |
So why are folks saying that he needs the right "system." |
He'll do his best in the right system but Lin said himself nothing will be perfect. He'll weigh what he thinks suits him best and conditions he wants but that doesn't mean that he won't end up adjusting his game again. Part of Lin wants to be system independent I think but at the same time knows what type of players he likes (Novak, Korver, cutters like he doesn't have on this team, PnR guys like Davis and Tyson Chandler but also Asik in a way) and what system suits his strengths. I can't speak for others but with the right system he can put up more impressive numbers. I think Lin wants consistent playing time from season's beginning to end and I think he's tired of wearing different hats. |

Rondo was benched the entire 2nd half in a crucial playoff game, wow. His stint with the Mavs are all but over as he and Carlisle do not see eye to eye.
Odds of a Lin and Rondo switcheroo are increasing by the day. |

just went to the mavs forum and there's a thread discussing possible PGs for next year. jlin is actively discussed but most posters are lukewarm to the idea. |

So we'll know where to find the Lin fans that have left the "sinking" Lakers ship! _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I follow Lin but like the Lakers. I'll be around some. I really hope no Rondo and can't wait to watch Randle. As far as the Mavs go, is it a dysfunctional culture there created by Rondo and to some extent Monta or is Carlisle too much of a hard you know what? If they want Lin, he has his PnR center and floor spacer/cutter and the style of play will suit him OK. But, there's a lot of factors that will determine that and things won't happen for weeks. Right now, Lin is chillin out. |

Yea I actually really hope Lin returns to he Lakers because I think he'd be happier here (better fan base, California etc.) But I don't think we will be able to match what the Mavericks offer money wise and I think Lin would probably take more money and a starting gig even if he likes being a laker, cuz I don't think we're going above 8mil for a guy if he's off the bench. Sadly we may pay much more to Rondo who isn't even in the same stratosphere as Lin talent-wise just for the "name" |

Rondo is a superior talent when his head is on straight and he's in the right system. From what I've seen the Mavs like to push the ball and Rondo doesn't. (That's from VERY limited exposure to Mavs basketball)
I'm also not sure I understand what he would do for the Lakers. Clarkson is showing promise and if Kobe plays, he likes the ball... |

Rondo likes to hold the ball thus killing ball movement. i don't think the shot lock will be enough for him and Kobe lol. _________________ Jeremy Lin: "In terms of my career, the only thing that's really been consistent is the amount of inconsistency that I've had in my life." |

Rondo is a relic of the past. Ball dominant PGs who can't shoot a lick. And Rondo's athleticism is clearly on the decline.
If I had to choose between Rondo/Lin, I take Lin without hesitation. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

IMO Lin is a very good option for the next few years. Not sure why he continues to recieve so much negativity. I would have no issues with him being re-signed. Even at a market value that could possibly be $5-7M. How about 3 yr/$18M? Would not be surprised if he gets offered more by other teams.
If the Lakers need a second tier PG, why not Lin?
Lakers could easily draft C or SF if they get the lottery pick. Also could spend the lion's share of free agent money on either of those positions. Lakers still need a solid rotation PG even if Clarkson develops. Most teams do have that rotation .
I can only hope the continued Rondo talk is this years version of the "need" to acquire broken players some people seem to have. Similar to Arenas or Beasley discussions from years past. |

The issue with Lin/Lakers:
1. does Lin even want to be back and play for Scott/Kobe?
2. Lakers will pursue big named free agents first. If successful, that leaves (assuming top 3 pick) around 4-5m in cap space. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |
