That, ladies and gentlemen, is JP Gibson.

The 5-year-old battling lymphoblastic leukemia was signed to a one-day contract with the Utah Jazz and took part in the team’s blue and white scrimmage Monday (along with taking part in a full Utah Jazz day). And the kid showed some moves, just breaking the ankles of Steve Novak, blowing by Dante Exum and throwing it down by using Rudy Gobert as a human trampoline (or crane, I guess).

That is a great moment. And a very classy move by the Jazz.

My nephew has ALL. He was diagnosed when he was three. His first stage chemo ends in about a month.

Thankfully this form of leukemia has a 96% remission rate in young kids...but the chemo really wreaks havoc on a little body.

Thanks BF. He's doing fine so far. Like I said, the chemo is almost over. They'll keep an eye on him on him for several years following it....but the general idea of the chemo is to keep attacking any possible trace of the cancer even after a general remission.

Once the chemo ends, his body should start to recover and no trace of the cancer should be there.

Amen... wow.

I saw the Utah highlight on (iirc) sportscenter... nice gesture by the Jazz... of course not my money but it would be nice for them to have had a $ amount attached to the contract. then again, if you do something for one then you open yourself up to endless possible negative repercussions.

I think that youth is an advantage. I coached a kid in football who was diagnosed with leukemia at 9, and after treatment at UCLA, he was back playing football at 10 and considered cured at 11. Sometimes things do turn out good, hopefully your nephew will have the same successful results.

So they cut him after one day? Utah sucks!

Seriously -- nice move by the team, and my thoughts are with the youngster.

nice job, wish him the best.

But hope he doesn't require any special treatment that makes him move out of Utah.
