the team looked dead from the get go. Dont know if that's only because of being old but i kinda doubt it. Training camp is taking its toll on the old guys, it seems |

3-point field goals tonight:
Warriors 13-33
Lakers 0-3 |

Equals.....41 point loss! Are long 2 pointers the new coaching twist?

Kobe and Nash looked old and un-quick, wait they are old. When is Wes going to released, he is not NBA talent, his jump shot has zero chance of going in, and he is in the line-up for his defense, what defense? _________________ .....

By my count: Lakers had 45 shots that weren't threes or in the paint. Forty-five midrange/long twos. By comparison, the Dubs had 15. |

Thanks for that stat. Is there a worse shot than long 2's.....What kind of coaching philosophy is this.

I remember Kobe saying before he will rather take a 3 point shoot than Long two. I hope Byron made an adjustment, if you will take a long two, you rather take a 3 point shoot |

Long 2's are the worst shot you can take. Kobe at the elbows, everyone else from beyond the arc, and in the paint.....
B.Scott another stop gap coach me thinks... |

My first pre-season game of the season and it was not pretty. I'm trying not to be too concerned until we get our full compliment of players back and we can see more rotations, etc. |

Elegantly stated, this team is just not equipped. The only two "interesting" players on this team are Jeremy Lin and Ed Davis. Everyone else kind of just has their flaws--sievish defense and/or old age, chucking tendencies, lack of defensive acumen, lack of general upside, lack of athleticism, whatever. And we didn't have those two players tonight. So the personnel is not there.
I can't fully blame Scott for having our team refuse to take threes. By nature, Nash and Kobe love to operate mid-range in. Their threes to FGA ratio has historically been on the lower end by position (yes, despite Nash being a top notch shooter from outside, he loves to hover inside). Price is the worst shooter among PGs in the league. Only Ellington can do it, but even he has Kapono-syndrome of loving to step inside for mid-rangers. It's inherent up-and-down throughout the roster.
That's why Ryan Kelly is particularly valuable for this team. Sievish defense aside which makes him typical on that end in this roster, he's an excellent offensive player who should be able to hit them from deep given the Duke stats. Ellington needs to park behind the three point line 24/7--he's extremely soft anyway, so there's no point venturing in. Wesley Johnson needs to be sacked. $100 physical tools, $1 output. Too little bang for the buck.
So really, this might be a Mitch problem. Yeah, Byron's defense is shoddy for someone who loves to say it to the media, and the reality is his teams haven't been good defensively for a long time. He's a problem too, but it's a two way street. |

We shouldn't have forced MDA out of town and got him the players he needed to compete. Byron is worse than MDA and the lakers are going to have a terrible season. Our roster sucks, Mitch, Jim, Scott, Jeanie everybody should be on the hot seat! I know its just pre-season but this is infuriating and embarrassing at the same time. Lakers are at an all time low right now. _________________ My Dream Starting 5 next Season

By the way, the defense has also been awful. Kobe and Nash form one of the worst defensive backcourts in the league, based on output for the past several seasons. I fear for Kobe even more now--returning from a long injury, and now reduced to taking fall aways all the time and not getting shots at the rim. That may indicate that lack of mobility which might compromise his defense further. We did cover for Nash with two good defenders in Lin and Price, though, so that's a good mark on Kupchak.
Our frontcourt defense is also sievish. Boozer is an absolute traffic cone who was protected by Chicago's schemes, but easily won't be here. Hill isn't as bad but has been a poor defender for several seasons running, odd given his energy and rebounding. Sacre became progressively bad over the course of last season there. Only Ed Davis is remotely interesting, but like Lin, seniority demotes him to the bench. Which sucks, and illustrates the problems with hierarchy.
So again, it's no surprise this team's defense will be bad. We want an all-defense team? It can't happen, because we only have three plus defenders (Lin, Price and Davis) in our entire roster. Structural problems. Structural problems. |

nash "didn't feel right" so he couldn't go after halftime??? mystery ailment again? a complete liability on the defensive end and aboslute garbage on the offensive end. this is an early test of byron scott's coaching fortitude--does he have the balls to tell the 2 time MVP that the clock has struck midnight? because starting nash only hurts the team, period. |

I have a feeling the leash is going to be looser for Byron than it was for Mike Brown or MDA. Just because he is part of the Laker family and pretty much everybody knows its a rebuilding year. |
