I understand the loyal factor and why we bought him back.... but the contract he got... he should perform more for what the Lakers gave him..... it really doesn't look like Hill is gonna be apart of our long-term plans... I diff think he's gonna get traded sometime during the season... he looks like the same player he was in the last 2 years..... I figured the Lakers knew something when they gave him that raise in salary but guess I was wrong.

He was never going to be part of the team's long term plans. We missed on our targeted free agents and we overpaid him this year b/c next year is a team option (which we likely decline to go after better centers). He's really a $4-5m center who should play 22mpg.

Just because you pay a guy more doesn't mean he'll improve or suddenly be worth it. If all goes well, his contract is a cap place holder and nothing more. Of course I thought they would be able to trade Pau last season...

What trade scenarios do you think can play out? would the Lakers use the Rockets pick in a Hill package so they can get a borderline star player?

1. He can't be traded until January 2015.

2. He has a no-trade veto due to his contract structure.

3. I think he likes the LA nightlife.

4. Team can trade him if they pick up the $9m option for 2015 (which eats into our cap space for that summer). No guarantees he can be traded and you might be stuck with him again, except he's $9m richer.

Maybe if he can put up 10/10, accepts a trade destination and we slap in the 2015 1st rounder AND a young player someone will take him. But that's a lot approvals needed.

He did say he worked on his jumper all summer and improved his diet but his jumper still looked tragic and his energy level looked low. He was a sieve on defense last night.

He was exactly what he was last season. The only difference is that the MDA blinders are gone and it's more noticeable.

I think there is a few teams Hill wouldn't mind getting traded to....the Suns
because the nightlife over there is probably the same like in L.A.

and probably Orlando...

But that requires the Suns:
1. sending $9m in contracts back;
2. be willing to eat $9m next season for Hill (assuming he won't approve of the trade).

What are we getting back from them? I don't see it.

Even... if Hill plays better down the road... that doesn't mean the Lakers won't trade him... they are probably waiting for him to be that double-double machine guy so they can get a star player for him.

Most players are who they are after 3-4 seasons. Sure, there are exceptions who break out after that, but those are few and far between.

That's what makes the time leading up to a new season so exciting for fans. The promise of a breakout season.

But in reality, if it hasn't happened in first 4 seasons or so, it probably won't happen at all.

Even still, Hill has a role, and he'll fill it fine.

it's pretty obvious that he is not giving 100% right now and considering his injury history and playing style that is a smart thing to do.

last thing we need is an another injury in a meaningless preseason game

He was one of the best offensive rebounders in the league last year per minutes played and moved well without the ball. I didn't much of any of that last night.

Is he coasting as a starter or post-contract apathy?

It's preseason. Some guys don't go full throttle until the regular season. Let's hit the regular season before judging.

Still early, but not encouraging that he laid an egg in his second game when consistency issues were his Achilles heel his entire career. I'll reserve judgement until the regular season.

He's not used to being a starter. He's basically been a big man off the bench where you don't have to necessarily be rock steady. He'll have to learn that.

Cant judge him from yesterday, Refs decided to take all the players out the game in the 1st qtr he looked more like himself in the 3rd not worried about hime, remember all the starters are learning to play with each other and the proper spacing

I think that any improvement you would see in Hill would be in him being able to play consistent minutes at an elevated level.

Hill's defense has always been poor; he's not a shotblocker, and just has poor fundamentals. Always a step behind. I like Davis as a counterweight because even when Hill is playing his typical game, he's still padding rebounds effortlessly and will score at the rim. That's useful. But rebounders who are subpar defenders are somewhat problematic.

Offensive rebounding in the expense of not getting back on defense. It's one of the more hollow stats in the league.

He's only on a one year deal, so unless he's planing to retire next season it's not apathy.
