Quote:
The Los Angeles Lakers could make a run for shooting guard Klay Thompson, if the Golden State Warriors fail to lock him up with a contract extension by October 31 deadline.

According to Chat Sports writer Clark Mitchell, the Lakers are expected to target Thompson, the son of former purple-and-gold player Mychal Thompson, if he becomes available next summer, either as an unrestricted or restricted free agent.

According to ChatSports analyst, the Lakers are expected to go all-in (max contract) in their pursuit of Thompson next year.

Can we offer him more than the max to make sure he has no choice but to join us?

By definition the max is the most we can offer him. And GS can offer him more.

Predictable. Knew this as soon as we passed on Stephenson.

Precisely... the Lakers also had the leverage to offer Howard to absolute max but that didn't stop him from joining Houston for less... now we all know GS is in a great situation with there team.... but agents always fool the media when it comes to there players.... just like how Howard's agent promised the Lakers he would resign.

If they are able to make him the offer that would be great...but I would not be surprised if the Warriors tried to trade him if they can't come to an agreement.

If we trade Hill and create a TE that even gives us more cap-max to offer to Thompson.

The difference is that Howard wasn't restricted while Klay will be. We could offer him a deal and help GS save money.

Hypothetically if the GS asks for Randle in a S&T for Klay do you pull the trigger?

Except the Lakers were a chemistry trainwreck for Howard. I'm under the impression at least he doesn't hate his co-workers in GS.

Klay-Randle would be a nice start to the future.

No chance. Force them to pay him the max if they want to keep him, there's little incentive for the Lakers to give up anything.

No not when you have the cap space to sign him outright.

Too bad Gsw matches the offer sheet before the ink is even dry.

Pretty sure they just made that up, but I could see it happening with GSW ultimately matching the offer.

Do it if we can. With the cap rising in a few years, Klay at 15-16 per is going to be a good bargain. Warriors will probably match though. I've read that they've been pretty hesitant on giving Klay a max deal, but they favored this guy over Kevin freaking Love. I'd be surprised if they didn't bite the bullet.

pretty sure other teams besides the Lakers will want Klay Thompson for the max also.

if Kobe does retire in 2 years then I saw the Lakers will be a better destination for other players. right now, other "star" players don't want to play with kobe and the lakers are not a good team at all.

The point is if we make a max offer warriors match it. 100% certain unless he's hurt.

I'd rather give Afflalo $10m a year since that's feasible.

So far Dubs and Klay are apart on extension talks and Klay wants to be a Laker but don't wanna say anything cause of his loyalty to the Dubs. Klay could be worth the max. Would love to have him back home with the Lakers.

Could be, but this is still an agent-driven league. If Klay wants the Lakers (and I don't know if that is true), then his agent can make it happen. He could take the QO, the agent can put together a sign and trade, there are ways the agent could get around it if that is what Klay wants.
