Messina, Luke are my top hopes....
I wonder about Calipari? How much magnetism he "could" bring in regards to free agents? When looking at how he pulls in top NCAA hoops stars year in and year out, he seems to have that "something" personality wise, and is able to verbalize a plan clearly for the team and individuals.
The NBA guys are grown and a different cat to skin, but probably not too far from the college hoops stars... |

Every passing day Byron isn't coaching another organization, Stephan Smith will continue to be wrong about him. |

You can't just hire and fire coaches every 1-2 years. Not a good look for any FA and ruins any chance to stability and growth for the young kids. Sure, Scott is not a good option but Madsen doesn't do it for me. Unless it's done in-season, I'm not sure how he could become an "interim". I imagine he would want a 3 year contract if he was hired in the summer like any other candidate.
Do we really know that Budenholzer wants control? Or Luke?
We've learned from these past coaching hires and I believe we are wanting to move in the right direction which means a long term coach that can help these kids grow. |
Sure you can hire and fire coaches every couple of years. 18 of the 30 coaches in the NBA have been with their team for 2 years or less. Obviously that's not ideal, but if the coach isn't good at his job he shouldn't be there. You piss off the NBA coaching fraternity when you did what Sacramento or Cleveland did with Malone & Blatt, firing well-respected coaches who were actually doing well relative to the talent level on their team. But firing a guy like Byron Scott after a couple of years? That's gonna be met with a "it's about time."
I would assume Budenholzer would want some personnel control because he currently has it in ATL. Luke doesn't have the juice for that. His Laker roots are deep enough and he's been successful enough as a AC (including a long stint as the HC) for the Lakers to break their rule about hiring first time coaches though. I'd be very happy with that hire. |
Maybe you're not understanding my point because it's not about firing Scott, it's about firing his replacement.
Now that he's gone, I'm so glad we can put this topic to rest.
That SOB really got everyone upset here. |
