Quote:
15. Los Angeles Lakers (Wins: 22.8)

The Lakers are held back by the recent health woes and AARP ages of Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash. Expecting a bounce back by one or both of these all-time greats is more a matter of faith than recent objective evidence. If they play well and stay relatively healthy, it's possible the Lakers could fashion a decent offense. Yet the defense might be best imagined by thinking of that old toy hockey game, where the guys with sticks spin around in place forever and ever.

I can't say this team being that bad. I'm thinking 35-40 wins.

ESPN is making a killing off of LG. Well done guys! Keep feeding that beast! Haha.

I agree with you though. 35-40 has been, and still is, my season win projection for this team (taking injuries in to account). Meaning, if we have a ton of injuries, we could be slightly worse, if we don't have many injuries at all we could be slightly better, but most likely, with a reasonable amount of injuries, 35-39 wins.

Did you read the article?

The win projection is just an output of some statistical formula centering around Real Plus/Minus (much better than regular plus/minus)

Seems like a retaliation for Kobe's responses(his calling them a bunch of idiots was great). I can't see them that bad I think they'll get 36-38 wins.

How can you know that it is trash, if you haven't read it?

Kind of like how you were telling that other guy that since he doesn't know Kobe, he can't talk about his likeability. Just curious.

Now that they predicted a very bad season for the Lakers. Can they guarantee an MVP for Kobe if he can lead them somehow to the playoff. I think not, it will still be Lebron and his super team.

No way Kobe wins an MVP....if the Lakers do shock the world and finish the season as overachievers, you can bet the focus will be on themes such as a. Byron finding his niche as the head coach of his beloved Lakers, b. Nash finding his second wind(assuming he plays more than 10 mins.) c. Linsanity, d. The youngsters stepping up....pretty much the consensus will be on any theme other than Kobe Byrant.

I don't think that's true. Our very own Larry Coon writes for ESPN. You don't think he has credibility?? Cmon. Let's not go overboard here.

I think more like 36-38 wins. I even placed a pretty large bet at Caesars on the over 31.5 line they had 3 weeks ago
that being said, the wording of that article was hilarious and made me laugh pretty hard...makes me wish I had Insider so I could read the other teams summary and see if they're all that funny

The defense has been like that for 4 years now. I started calling it the Matador defense and would yell OLE, OLE every time someone would blow by our perimeter players

maybe I should start a drinking game on that...when I was in college, there was a popular drinking game based on Bob Newhart reruns that came on late late night tv....every time they said "Hi Bob" you did a shot.
Ole, Ole...followed by a shot of tkillya. Considering this teams D, we'd probably be passed out drunk by halftime...

If we're not going to make the playoffs, I would hope that we'd be this bad.

Was just about to say the same thing before I scrolled and seen your response. Pretty much sums up ESPN.

Because it is written by people from the entertainment industry and that isn't where I would go to find basketball information. Just as I prefer to skip through commercials when I watch TV, both are just ways to push a product and make money.

We'll win a lot more games than these (bleep) think.

You know Kobe isn't going down without a fight.

I think PK and ringfinger told me this yesterday when I told them I didn't click the link (to Abbott's article), and I generally boycott all ESPN sites and programming unless it's a game I can't watch anywhere else.

I don't watch ESPN at all unless there is a game on that I want to see. And I typically check Yahoo sports if I want updates on scores, it is more user friendly than ESPN.com in my opinion.

I don't know how many games the Lakers will win, but you can see from the preseason that the defense is still atrocious. Until that gets better they aren't going to win a lot more games than last year.

I don't care either way. That's why it's important to have picks (even protected ones). If you're good then good, if u stink then you're in a good position to get better and not stink. So either way it's ok.
