PostPosted: Fri Oct 24, 2014 4:37 am    Post subject: Summer 2015

I apologize for those of you who do not wish to have a thread for next summer already at this point of the year, but I cannot help but look ahead in hopes that Kobe can be on a somewhat competitive team in 2015/2016.

Two questions for the LG brain trust:

1) Can someone kindly explain our draft pick situation for 2015? Do we have any picks at all? Does it depend on where we finish in the standings (i.e. protected picks)?

2) How much cap room will we have and who are the notable FAs in 2015?

Thank you.

1. We have Houston's 2015 1st pick, and 2nd pick, both subject to certain protections.

2. If we don't keep Hill and let Lin go, IIRC we have close to $30m in cap space next summer.

Klay Thompson and Greg Monroe should be the main targets next summer. Two young players who will be around for a long time with Randle and Clarkson. I'll be happy with either.

Max for Klay, then remainder for Monroe? Who is playing point guard though on this team? (Lin would need to be let go).

If we let Lin go Price & Clarkson gets it by default.

Maybe (wishful thinking) Lin decides to stay and gives us the hometown discount.

Yes to offering Klay the max.

No to Greg Monroe and the Lakers should go after Marc Gasol.

Can't do both. Not enough money.

Klay is what, 17m for a max. We could only offer 12-13m to Gasol when he will get max offers elsewhere.

And oh, we have no point guard since Lin would have to be renounced.

Does Klay have to agree to an extension by the 31st of this month? If he doesn't, is he then a FA?

Either way, if Klay is available, offer him the Max. We need a Center. Lopez or Asik would do if there's enough Cap Space.

RFA. And Warriors will match. If he reaches free agency, first call for me is a max deal. Warriors will match so be ready to offer the next contract.

We will need a PG and a Center.

This is literally impossible under the salary cap.

Yes, a long term deal for around $8-9 mil per might work for both sides. I think going after Klay is a good idea and a bad idea. I would like to have him here, but I can't imagine that GS wouldn't match. Letting Hill walk and getting a good deal with Lin and the team would still have around $17-19 mil to go after FAs.

We'll strike out on Gasol, Klay. Gasol will choose Memphis at the end of the day while strongly considering New York during his FA process. GS matches Klay and we'll likely go after Rondo. H

I think (and hope) that we pursue Lin over Rondo. Rondo would be a horrible addition.

^I agree. However, I'd rather go after a Center. If we need a point guard, though, and he's available, I think we'll go after him.

pipe dream: able to get our own pick with staying at top5. Pick Towns, Sign Klay. Sign Rondo.

Rondo/Klay/Kobe/Randle/Towns

Lin will be available and wants to play here, I stick with him.

You still need another point on the roster. I'm all for keeping Lin, and we'll say ideally, he becomes a starter; we still need a backup PG; hell, we still need a Center and an SF.

Realistically we can offer the max to Klay or Marc or go after two guys in the range of guys like Robin Lopez, Jimmy Butler, Danny Green, which is the route I might take.

Also, I forgot; Kobe's retiring in two years; we need a 2 as well. Fortunately, we do have a pick this year; more than likely, we'll draft for at one of those positions. Then, we'll see who and how much available FA's are going for...
