It's a huge indictment on the FO and a testament to Kobe's versatility but I think it's true.
Kid has looked great though. He's much more impressive when not relegated to a spot-up shooter _________________ "My thirst for domination is fed only by the game. I refuse to get distracted by outside forces." - Kobe Bryant |

jeremy lin is definitely a great pick up, in terms of what he gives on court and what he gives the team in terms of financial flexibility going forward. probably the most underrated contract deals this year. |

I agree Sammo. I also think Lin will be one of the key pieces for us to move forward with. _________________ "We have a lot of guys that have been kinda discarded ... And to think, we got him for basically nothing. Oh, we also got a 1st rounder too. Thanks, Morey! _________________ The butter's hard and the eggs are chillin' in the dark.

Best since NVE? Hard to say. Consider the competition.
Derek Fisher
Derek Harper
Ron Harper
Lindsay Hunter
Ty Lue
Gary Payton
Sucky Crapkins
Tierre Brown
Smush
Dribbles
Sessions
Farmar
Marshall
He's pretty good....better than most of the guys on this list. |

We really should give the FO credit on this trade. Here is more details about the trade http://fansided.com/2014/10/07/los-angeles-lakers-almost-passed-jeremy-lin-trade/
ETA: It also worked out for Lin. I think he could not have ended at a better place ... _________________ "We have a lot of guys that have been kinda discarded ... Myself with the injury and the age. With the 33+ minutes Lin is about to get with all the injuries, he's going to put up some good numbers. Lin is going to lead the team in minutes and the ball will be in his hands a lot, I think he'll avg 17/7 this year. |

"Jeremy is a lot faster than I thought he was gonna be" - Kobe pregame interview. He also praised Jeremy's defensive effort _________________ "We have a lot of guys that have been kinda discarded ... Offense looked really good with him running the offense and GUYS SHOOTING/MAKING THREE POINTERS
I have the same concerns as the two previous seasons: We have the offense that Lin could run and run pretty well--an MDA style offense, and then the offense that Kobe (last season it was Pau, season before it was 5 different offenses) and Byron will want to run. Which will be ISO heavy and with less ball movement.
It looked good tonight. I'm cautiously optimistic. |

He is showing to be better than Price. Ronnie is an active defender though.
Sessions was good. Time will tell if Lin is better. I am thinking yes. Gary Peyton was really good though. Carried our team for a while when everyone else was hurt. He was at the end of his career but still very good. |

Derek Fisher -system PG. More of a undersize SG role in the triangle.
Derek Harper - was role player and past his prime - provided veteran leadership
Ron Harper - was role player and past his prime - help facilitate the triangle offense
Lindsay Hunter - Past his prime
Ty Lue - his coming out party was during the finals when he guarded Iverson. Went downhill after that.
Gary Payton - was past his prime by the time he became a Laker. He went to chase a ring here. Sulking the whole time
Sucky Crapkins - a chucker, nothing more
Tierre Brown - was in the NBA thanks to Kobe's greatness. Belonged in the D-League.
Smush - aka "the grim reaper". Same as above.
Dribbles - another D-Leaguer. Can't shoot.
Sessions - career back-up PG. He had a chance here in LA but bolted for the $$
Farmar - "ears" Farmar had the body of a PG but a scorer's mentality. Not a true PG
Marshall - Great court vision but cannot shoot a pea in the ocean.
He's pretty good....better than most of the guys on this list. |
adding
Steve Nash - He was past his prime and should have retired after he injured his Tibia bone. He never really had a chance to play.
Sedale "the Thief" Threat - He was signed in the summer of 1991 to help Magic with the PG duties and provide some outside shooting. I don't recall if Sedale ever had a chance to play with Magic. Sedale was a great outside shooter, excellent in steals, decent play maker.
Personally, from what I've seen him this pre-season Lin has a chance to be on top of that list. Probably neck and neck with Nick the Quick in terms of over all talent. The one thing I remember from Nick the Quick was he was pretty clutch in the 4th quarter (before the Kobe era). Again, this all from memory, just my 2cents.

Reminded me of G.W.Bush saying "You forgot Poland" when he was talking about invading Iraq, lol (referring to the coalition of the willing). Not sure if that was the joke though. |

My rankings since NVE:
Payton
Lin/Sessions
Nash (for 5 games + 1 game vs. Philly last year )
Farmar
Marshall
Lue
RANDOM SCRUBS
Sucky Crabcakes
(i didnt consider Fish. he was not a playmaker at all and the leagues worst finisher in the paint.. not very impressive as a true "PG")
If Threatt was eligible to be ranked i'd have him #2. I remember him going for i think 42 one night for LA. I think it may have been in NYC. He was a very underrated scorer. _________________ Championships since NBA/ABA merger in '76: Lakers 10 - Celtics 5 - Clippers 0 --- Phil Jackson 10 - Doc Rivers 1 |

From wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedale_Threatt
Quote: | Threatt was expected to play a backup role to Magic Johnson. However when Johnson retired due to his infection with HIV, Threatt became the starting point guard. Threatt led the Lakers in assists, steals and minutes played each of his first two seasons with the Lakers. In 1992-93 he became the second player in Laker franchise history (joining Magic Johnson) to lead the Lakers in scoring (15.1), assists (6.9) and steals (1.7.)
He scored a career high 42 points against the New York Knicks on 03/10/92 and scored a career playoff high 35 points in Game 1 of the 1993 Western Conference Quarter Finals against the Phoenix Suns. He retired from the league following the 1996-97 season, and later went on to play in France, Switzerland, and for Gymnastikos S. Larissas, in Greece. |

I fail to see the reasoning, have you seen the numbers for the entire preseason for all of the remaining Guards? Ronnie Price can't hold a candle to Lin. |
