Quote: | Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras dies in car accident
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras and one of the top prospects of the past several seasons died today in an auto accident in his native Dominican Republic, his agent confirmed to reporters there.
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak expressed his condolences to the family, but said the team was awaiting more details before making a formal announcement.
Brian Mejia, Taveras' agent, told reporters that Taveras and his girlfriend died in the accident. No other details were immediately available.

Huge, huge blow for, of course, his family and the Cardinal organization. ...Wow!....was said to be the best hitting prospect since Albert |

Wow such tragic news. RIP
Juan Perez was very close to oscar and was crying in the dugout when he heard the news. Comes up bottom 8 and hits a 2 run triple. Emotional hit right there. _________________ LG needs a min IQ requirement for posting.

Really sad, he was a really jubilant kid who was always smiling on the field. The Cardinals have been known to be pretty serious and all business, and he would be running around laughing and smiling. Different kind of player, but had a hell of a lot of potential. Really tough we don't get to see it.
Reminds me of the Nick Adenhart situation |

I've been following the guy since he was 17-18 in the minors. Very tragic, feels like i lost someone i knew. Can't even imagine what the guys who played with him are feeling. _________________ Lakers Cardinals Rams |

Man, that's just horrible...and apparently, there's a picture of his dead body out there. I don't know how people can just disrespect someone who died like that. |

I saw that it was some kind of Ferrari or Lambo. Although you have to give your condolences, IF he was at fault, he did kill his girlfriend, as well. |

Seriously?
I'm guessing you had some misguided intention of making a point . . . But for the life of me I can't see what it would be. |

Damn right, I did. The actual make of the car is not that important (I saw a picture of the wreck) - I basically said that if he was driving recklessly, he was/is responsible for not only his death, but of his girlfriends, as well. Is it THAT hard to infer, or do you need me to spell out everything. Your call. |

It was his teammate who was very close to him. In a lot of latin american cultures they have a different view of death, the newspaper will often show pictures of dead bodies and other things we might think is too much, but this is how they venerate and respect their dead.
He removed the picture from his twitter after presumably being asked to. He didn't mean any ill will though I'm sure |

Yeah that is what he meant, and the cardinals have had some good bats in their organization since Pujols. Taveres was going to be special. If he didn't have complications stemming from an ankle injury he would have been up earlier, possibly in september of last season. |

Yea, the legal limit in the DR is .05. Apparently, his cousin was in the car behind him. _________________ Lakers Cardinals Rams |

When will people learn. I enjoy having some drinks, but have never considered driving after consuming them. When we go out the price of a cab is figured into our evening. I guess being young and feeling invincible is normal, but even in my younger days I never drank and drove. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

That is disappointing. I feared this was the case, a statement was made shortly after the accident that said alcohol was probably not to blame.
Horribly irresponsible and stupid. Guy had it all and threw it all away. |
