Don't care if it was unnecessary. I'll applaud any shot at Diva12 because he deserves it. His mentality and demeanor, and his half hearted, "lets just have fun" approach towards the NBA, in general, sucks. Good words, Byron |

If this makes Dwight try to do too much on offense, then great. |

On Scott's comments. Yes, probably true. But it isn't drive. It's the status on the team. Lamar Odom was 10 times more laid back and less driven than Dwight. Yet, Kobe and Lamar managed to play 7-8 years together. The biggest dividing factor IMO was Kobe actually knew what Dwight meant to the team and the Lakers. And there was no way he's going to let anyone just come in and take his team and his culture away. It's also the same reason MDA got the boot real fast from Kobe. The main difference is coaches are usually easily replaceable unless it's Phil or Pop. Replacing a perennial all-star C who has DPOTY talent, not as easy. Kobe, Lakers and Dwight all failed miserably as partners in this. All could have and should have done better. |
I love how now people are acting like the problems with that team were solely between Kobe and Dwight. None of the veterans on that team liked Dwight and a lot of the younger players didn't either. Steve Nash couldn't even get along with Dwight Howard... |

Mind games, or locker room material. Either way, it may make Dwight force the issue. |

I like it. Byron's not shrinking by 'paying lip service respect' to Dwight. He's basically telling his guys 'were not backing down from anyone' and the team better bring it - they shouldn't expect anything easy from anyone.
Far removed from what MDA would've said, if he would've said anything anyone could understand... |

I really like Scott as a coach. He's going to change this culture into a winning one if laker fans give him a chance. |

Dwight Howard isn't paying enough attention nor does he care enough to be bothered by what Byron said. |

I like Byron needling Howard, cause he's a little wuss. |

This makes me think Scott is challenging his own squad, by giving diva12 some bulletin board material. While I still think Howard is a second class clown, he is (assumed to be) the best big on the floor tomorrow. Hope Davis and JHill get even more fired-up knowing that there coach is poking the giant with a stick. Not that he should need any needling, but as we all were witness, diva12 doesn't always bring it.
This is what I hope happens because Scott gets in Howards head.
Kobe dunks on diva12 in the first to get the crowd roaring.
Lin posterizes him just before half-time to extend the Laker lead and Linsanity ensues.
Randle two hand flushes on diva12 to start the 3rd, starting his career as our best big since the Diesel, and the Lakers blow it open.
In the 4th, MWP comes out of the stands and elbows Harden in the face (for real this time).
Alright, not really the last one _________________ Magic*Kobe*LBJ*AD*Cap |

You're probably right. He'd probably get swatted a mere seven times by an unmotivated Dwight. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

What's Dwight going to do with bulletin board material? Demand the ball more so he can get more turnovers and missed free throws? |

If he was saying this to Shaq, then I'd think he is stunted. Dwight will play the same regardless. You say stuff like this to Shaq and he'd drop a 40-20 game on you. |

Hear, hear!
I bet we'll have a harder time dealing with foul trouble on the BS touch fouls Harden's gonna get.
Besides, am I supposed to be pissed at this when our last coach chuckled with the media about how bad he's leading the team? We had no drive at all last season. I don't care if Scott pokes an opponent. Phil did it constantly.
Jerms' best chance to get some payback is by playing under control as much as he's able. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

"Bulletin board material" is something that affects very few players (some positively, some negatively). I don't think Dwight is on that short list, in large part because of the topic of this discussion.
As for why Byron said it - he was probably answering a question that was posed to him. People assume that coaches and players say everything unprovoked, whereas they are actually just answering questions. |
Yes, and if anyone hasn't been paying attention, this was pretty much the same answer he's given to anything he's been asked all preseason.
D'Antoni? Didn't understand Lakers were about winning championships.
Shooting 3s? Doesn't win you championships.
What does he bring as a coach? Mindset about winning championships.
What do you like about Kobe? He's about winning championships.
No need to read too much into it. |

Who cares about Dwight Howard anymore? Let it go, man. We sound like the ex-girlfriend that can't stop talking about the guy that dumped her.
It's pathetic. If it's a mind game, it isn't going to work on a mental midget like Dwight, anyways. _________________ Lakers, today. Lakers, tomorrow. Lakers, forever. |

It was a good strategy by Scott. Howard was not 100% yet and had already missed several practices and preseason games due to his knee and arm injuries. |

I don't think Byron was trying to light up the fire. I think the media asked him a question he wasn't really expecting, and he answered it honestly. |
