it's one thing to see bad players miss shots on a good offensive system... it's another to see bad players miss shots in a bad system.

I'm not going to judge Byron's system just yet. It would be one thing if guys were running his offensive system smoothly, but still playing poorly. Then, it would be easy to pinpoint whether it was the lack of skilled players, or the system.

At present, everyone knows that the talent on the team isn't " star material". Plus, guys just look lost on offense. It all adds to a lot of ugly.

If anything, Byron may want to simplify things on offense, while the team learns his sets, and the players get familiar with themselves.

I wonder if byron will be the reason why free agents don't want to play here next season. Take that Abbott.

This was something i always credited MDA for. As long as MDA was here, we could get guys like Farmar and Nick Young willing to take 1-year deals for less money, knowing they'd be playing in a stat-inflating offense. In the process, they could make themselves into more desirable midseason trade pieces.

Now we're playing in a bogged-down Kobe-only offense. Forget superstars for a second. What 2nd/3rd tier players are going to want to come here and play in this putrid offense? Whose trade value will be raised on Byron's watch?

I said it all along: MDA to Byron was a substantial downgrade. The only reason we did it was because Kobe didn't want to play for him. We had to hire a worse coach to satisfy Kobe. I don't buy the Abbott "kobe is killing the team from the inside" stuff, but on this point, he did hurt the team.

We could have hired Lionel Hollins or Mark Jackson who were better coaches than Scott and MDA or even went in a new fresh direction with Derek Fisher but instead the front office sat on their hands until Scott was the only option available. It had nothing to do with Kobe.

Mark Jackson was either not offered the job because the front office didn't want to hire him, or he wasn't interested. Derek Fisher wasn't interested in the Laker job. Hollins might have been interested, but why didn't we hire him if he was the better coach?

At any rate, MDA being fired had everything to do with Kobe. The only guys that complained about playing for him last year (Pau and Kaman) were gone.

MDA DESERVED to be fired. That's the point youre missing while you try to blame Kobe for his firing.

I'm not sure why the Lakers didn't seriously consider Hollins, Fisher, Jackson, or even Stan Van Gundy. Most likely incompetence when seeing the last 3 coaching hires (Brown, MDA, and not Scott).

They DID. None of them wanted the job (and don't tell me how they could've had Jackson two seasons ago).

Why did MDA "deserve" to be fired when he had a roster of castoffs? What coach would have made them a playoff team? MDA deserved to be fired, but Byron deserved to replace him? Look at the oncourt product. Anyone that knew any better knew Byron was a bad hire.

good for you. but I think Byron's offense is terrible. his defense is doubly terrible.

the only positive thing is that he still has time to fix this junk he calls a system. 80 games to go.

Coach needs to seriously reconsider that game plan. Kobe's Isos are calling out double teams which means someone is open, usually at the 3 pt line. Kick it out and let someone shoot that open 3!!!

Like it or not, the 3-pt shot has become a key part of today's game. Generally, players have more range. It's the way the game has evolved. Doesn't mean some basic, old school aspects aren't important. Still need bigs to defend the paint against dribble penetration and rebound. But you gotta have shooters that opponents need to seriously honor.

I heard Kobe told Lin to run the offense... Lin probably was like... "say what????"... "what offense???"

Lol! What's interesting is that Byron is teaching 7 threes or less...but when Byron was playing for the Lakers, he was a three point specialist....lol.

I think Stan wanted some power - control that Mitch & Jim weren't willing to surrender to him.

The FO interviewed B Scott a couple of times. Did they forget to talk about his offensive and defensive schemes?? Or Did they pull out the lakers dynasty dvd boxset instead and drink themselves silly each time??

Honestly I will take it over the small ball 3 shoot happy MDA offense. There is nothing wrong with trying to get a higher percentage shot. Of course you need to have shooters who can hit the 3 to space the floor, but man I think most teams take way to many 3's.

I disagree. Even though we are only 2 games in, last year's team was more fun to watch. If neither are going to win much, I take fun over painful.

Honestly, hearing Byron talk validates every single one of my concerns.

Nothing he says has any substance. It's the exact same old canned coach speak. During his press conference it was "we'll take elements of the triangle, Princeton" yada, yada. Bull. A whole bunch of fluff...telling the audience just what it wanted to hear. I've seen the Triangle and Princeton and this ain't it.

"We'll move the ball".
"We'll run when we can".
"We'll play hard on defense".

Literally, zero substance. *cringe*.

But hey....SHOWTIME! PRIDE!

BScott lost 26 games in a row while coaching the Cavs which tied for the longest losing streak in the four major pro sports. I think he has a good chance to break that record now.
