If a crappy team like the SF Giants can suck for 6 months and barely squeeze into the playoffs and just get on a extremely lucky streak riding on their one good player then maybe the Lakers could do the same.
Recipe for success: below average players, a frustrating season, injuries to our key players, everyone in the country to write us off b/c we just evidently suck, one good player, and LOTS OF PRAYER/LUCK. Sounds like we have what it takes! |

different sport with different things that have to fall in place.
one pitcher can carry you hard in the MLB.. NBA is more physically taxing and A LOT more things have to go right. |

Oh circusmonkey. Are you going to post this in the Spurs message board so you guys can pretend that a Laker fan posted this and laugh about it? |

Maybe the Warriors message board since it's a jab at SF. It's a depressing time to be an LA sports fan, I'm trying to find to cling on to any ounce of hope I can find. At least we got the Kings! |

this post demonstrates a completely lack of understanding of the fundamental differences between the sports of basketball & baseball. _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

Basketball is a more physical sport than baseball. Baseball is much harder to predict because it has much more variables. |

Champions? The only thing that this team has a chance of winning is the draft lottery. |

You know what the Giants have? A great HOFer Manager. You know what the Lakers have these past 3 years, retread coaches. Use some common sense, OP. |

I don't actually believe being bad is a formula for success. Yes I know there's more luck involved in winning a baseball game than a basketball game. No, I don't realistically predict Lakers will contend for the championship this season. |

I still believe circusmonkey. I'm waiting for that trade for Al Horford and Javale McGee to happen. _________________

The giants have a great Manager and they got extremely lucky with well timed pitching and hitting in the championship runs. |

Why I have hope that I will win the Powerball lottery.
Because it is more likely than the premise of this thread. |

Lol. Crappy team like the Giants? All they've done is win 3 outta 5 and finished one game above .500 when it mattered. The Lakers aren't getting to the playoffs. Thy would probably need 47 wins to get close. They'll need lucky to win 17. |

I think the Rockets were actually the lowest seed team that won a championship. They were a 6th seed team. I don't think an 8th seed team has ever won a championship in the NBA.
8th seed teams don't win championships in the NBA...and it won't happen unless they were very talented to begin with...but lost their best players for the majority of the season...but eventually came back just in time for the playoffs.
Playoffs are not totally out of sight yet. But if we go 0-9 for the first 9 games then it's done. |

That's not luck when the same core has done it 3 out of 5 years... |

Alright seriously even I had to log in for this.
You're saying a team that has won 3 of the past 5 world series sucked? |

Hypothetically if the Lakers somehow won it all this year, I think we would all agree we required a lot of luck. But some idiot would say that it wasn't luck, and that we won 3 out of 7 years. Sometimes bad teams win. Giants did it twice (I'll give them the first one). Their current team is not good, but they won. Luck is not a real thing to have but it's what you call it in hindsight when something happens against the probable. |
