It is pretty big to pass MJ in career scoring, that is the pantheon of players now. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

MJ retired not caring about the scoring title. He lost a couple of seasons playing baseball and retired and played three years of college. The most points scored has nothing to do with how great you are. It's about a combination longevity and greatness. There have been players who were great but injuries or they simply chose not to be a scorer in the league. This should not be a big deal like 500 home runs or 300 wins in baseball. |

Well, there is something great about being one of the best cumulative scorers of all-time. I agree, longevity is a big story here. But longevity alone won't get you on the list that the Kobe's and the MJ's of the world are on. You have to have longevity AND be a prolific scorer. So, this "passing of MJ", to me, doesn't change anything other than confirming for me what I already know. That Kobe is a scorer and for the majority of his career, was a darn good one at that.
But we also can't ignore the fact that it's going to take him around 25% more games to get to the same regular season scoring mark as Jordan. But again, to me, it's a longevity accomplishment that confirms what we already know about the man. |

does we have to wait until he passes MJ to believe that he's got the longevity as well as the greatness? that's the point to all this nonsense. |

Thanks for these updates. All we have to look forward these days is to this. Thank you David Stern for setting us back 5 years. _________________ Game 3 Victory in Denver . Well Jegg's was banned for a while, so I figured someone ought to keep the countdown alive since he's pretty close to passing MJ..
not that I think it really matters that much as a record, but it is marginally interesting to know _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

I know tell me about it. This crap is so pathetic that this is all we have to look forward to and a possible top 5 pick for team tank.
I'm so ready for this ish to be over but I know now what we are looking at to get back to the top. Randle + top five pick (hopefully) + B+ level FA + and Kobe once we get some god given talent around him. _________________ Game 3 Victory in Denver . Wow!. That's an amazing stat. And an amazing club in which to belong. LBJ is the only one on the horizon with the chance to join it. _________________ “It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”

MJ: 32,292
KB:32,216
76 Pts needed. so that's 3 games @ 25.8ppg.
Unless he explodes for 50 it likely won't happen till friday against SA. He could also fall flat in a game, or go in assist mode and have a sub 20 pt game which would stretch it out more. It's all a mystery. |

there's 2 or 3 different threads about this, with Jeggs banned I've been updating which ever thread seems to be most current whenever I see one
MJ: 32,292
Kobe: 32,216
Difference: 76
Kobe's current scoring avg: 25.8ppg
games to catch: 2.95
Upcoming games:
Pelicans
Kings
Spurs
Wolves
Pacers

12/7 after Pelican's game
MJ: 32,292
Kobe: 32,230
Difference: 62
Kobe's current scoring avg: 25.2ppg
games to catch: 2.42
KB scored 14 vs the Pelicans, which makes predicting which game he'll pass MJ pretty iffy...but, right now it's looking like Wolves or Pacers - or OKC if we get a few more games below 20pts
Upcoming games:
Kings
Spurs
Wolves
Pacers

62 points away from passing MJ. I would have thought for sure that he would pass it in San Antonio. Still might, but it's probably doubtful (looking more like @Min), and probably better to not pass him when you're getting blown out. Only thing that would have been cool would have been Pop, Duncan, TP, Ginobili, etc. congratulating him on the mark. They are rivals, but are very classy/respectful of the game. |

Man, Wilt to MJ was nothing. MJ to Malone is tremendous - Like 5,000 points. If Kobe gets there, he actually has a shot at Cap, but I think he probably finishes in between MJ and Malone. Just for some perspective, if Kobe averaged 30 points, and played in all 82 games (in a hypothetical brand new season right now), he wouldn't even be half-way from MJ to Malone. |
