"Look, man. I think the most important thing is to understand the relentlessness that you have to play with," Bryant said.
"I'll go out there and I'll leave it on the floor, everything, and compete and be relentless and not be fearful of criticism or fearful of not playing well and missing shots.
"And that's the same way I want the guys to play -- Jeremy [Lin] in particular. Because he's a really good player, man. And he's just getting used to playing with that [expletive] attitude.
"Can I shoulder the load and these minutes consistently? Probably not. But every now and then it will be necessary."

I'd rather him not shoot 37 times. |

He does not understand no everyone is him, people gave efforts in different ways.

SO who pray tell would you have him pass it to? As no-dunking powerless forrward Boozer says, some guards are playing down to the competition.

Regardless, I'd rather him trust his team mates, put the responsibility on them and watch them lose together as a team. _________________ My Dream Starting 5 next Season

Lin has an open invitation to take shots from him. What's he waiting for? |

A pass from Kobe, perhaps? 37 shots is way too many. The rest of the team quite literally did not possess the ball enough to put up shots to get in any sort of a rhythm. Jordan Hill and Lin are the two guys I'd like to see getting more touches/shots up.
But hey, I'm all for tanking and I will admit its great to see that Kobe can still bring it, so I guess its fine. If I didn't want us to tank, though, I'd rather see Kobe put up 25 shots vs 37, and have those 12 spread between Lin and Hill. _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way |

I'd prefer that too, but I don't fault him too much. It's part of his intense competitive personality. You take the bad with the good.
If more people on the team shared that mindset, then Kobe would shoot less. |

Not sure if Boozer has any point there.
We've been facing the best guard lineups in the NBA. How do you play "down" to the competition there? |

Who here actually watched the game? Our team is horrid, kobe is the only player on the floor that can get his own shot.
Take Kobe off the floor in the 4th and we get blown out by 20+ _________________ Maybe you think it's completely innocent. Maybe you don't. But there's no denying that what the rule book says means a lot less than what the NBA wants at any given moment. -Tim Donaghy |

It's more than mindset. Who else on the team is capable of reliably creating shots when the offense bogs down in the halfcourt? |

He doesn't want to either. The players around him now probably remind him of 2004-2005, which compels him to flip on the God Mode switch, except his legs aren't what they used to be.

You might want to contrast those quotes with what Lebron James said last night after he contributed just 11 points in a losing effort to Portland:
Quote: | "We have to understand what it takes to win. It's going to be a long process. There's been a lot of losing basketball around here for a few years," James said. |

Nobody should have to completely create their own shot. There should be picks galore.
Players don't even have to be that talented to set good picks consistently. They just have to play smart.
Until the team has had a lot more practices under their belt, they should keep it simple. Fundamental P&R basketball.

I don't think there should be a set number of times that someone shoot the ball, and I adore the relentlessness with which he plays. I don't have some fundamental issue with him taking 37 shots.
There are, however, times where he draws a ton of attention from the defense, teammates are wide open, and he instead takes a very difficult shot. To answer the rhetorical question of who on this team I'd rather have shooting the ball than Kobe...the answer is everyone, if they're wide open and he's heavily contested. |

Please don't put the title easily. Kobe seems to lost faith for teammates. Actually, Lin 4-8, Hill 4-10, Boozer 6-13, Ellington 3-7, Davis 1-3, Kelly 1-2, not that bad. |
