Quote:
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The old head seems to be playing the long game, at least for now.

That's what LeBron James was doing Tuesday night, and perhaps more nights in the near future, when the Portland Trail Blazers whipped the Cleveland Cavaliers so heartily (101-82 was the final) that the white flag was out midway through the fourth quarter.

James pulled up even earlier, jogging through his final shift of the night watching his younger teammates bomb away indiscriminately and generally showing zero interest in fighting. It's an interesting strategy and not one James has relied upon in the past, when he's usually dealt with intra-team frustration by pulling on a cape and trying to heroball his way through it.

what a joke. Man, must be nice to have your own groupie/PR man as one of the head writers at bspn. This dude actually wrote that LeBron quitting and giving no effort is a "new leadership style" and somehow being praised? These guys have no shame.

Lebron does not seem the same this year. Notwithstanding, 3 or 4 games may not be the appropriate timespan within which to determine whether he is slipping or not. I infamously posted last year that Lebron was declining.

Still, I do wonder if the dramatic weight loss has taken a toll on Lebron. Although boxing is not equivalent to basketball, Roy Jones jr. was never the same after he lost weight rapidly when transitioning from heavyweight back down to light heavyweight. Notably, he was slower, lost his reflexes, and not quite as fast. Lebron, similar to Roy, has lost a lot of weight in a short period of time.

Lebron and the word quit should be synonomous to each other.

Yeah, for this is nothing new, he was doing the same thing in his first run with the Cavs.

What a (bleep) joke. Now getting his ass whipped on a daily basis is a "new leadership style"?

Amazing how a narrative can paint a picture of someone. Kobe takes 2 shots and it's "he's just proving to the teamt hat they need him to shoot more, that selfish bastard".

Lebron takes 2 shots..."he's showing them how to win".

Of course it's Windhorst though. He's like El BJ's personal cuckold.

He doesn't seem like his normal super human self. At the end of the game tonight he drove one on one on Hayward. Normally once they make contact Lebron knocks the defender back and easily makes the shot without losing balance. Well this time Lebron lost his balance and didn't make the shot. Interesting.....

I'm tempted to read the rest of that to see exactly what the hell Windy is trying to say...but I don't want to waste my time.

I just love this Lebron quote following his loss on Tuesday:

Quote:
It's going to be a long process. There's been a lot of losing basketball around here for a few years," James said.

I noticed how activeverb and dreamshake, the proverbial LeBron defenders, rarely grace threads like these.

Kobe was crucified for Game 7 vs Suns when he gave his teammates abundant opportunities, interesting how this guy gets the new leadership award and a pat on the back. (Bleep) (bleep)ers.

When has there even been a lot winning? If I remember correctly, winning is actually bringing home a ring. They've been losing for decades.

Cavs losing=Lebron is just showing leadership skills by deferring....
Lakers losing=Kobe is a greedy ball hog that won't share with his team.
Do I have that right ESPN and the general sports media?

Lebron tried a little different leadership after the game, getting into it with Kyrie in the locker room. I wondered how long it would take for him to see that Kyrie is only in it for himsefl.

while I agree that Kyrie is starting to not exactly seem like a team player.. I will say that if I was Kyrie, I'd probably react the exact same way.

I personally don't react very well to people who give up. Watching the way LeBron gave up vs the blazers woulda driven me nuts. You could make an argument that LeBron is trying to be too "Savy" of a leader.. that can easily make ur teammates dislike you.

Like JVG said.. "when you are winning you accept your role because you are winning.. when you are losing, yea that's when you really see some true colors"

Kyrie Irving - "Dude...you've lost more rings than you've won and have shrunk when the stage is the brightest. I don't trust you when we need you the most. You don't trust yourself or else you wouldn't be here. Give me the ball because I do believe in myself."
