Regardless of the other aspects of the Nash fiasco, he is being paid over $9 million for another season of absolutely nothing. It might be nice if he showed enough class to return the coach's phone call and maybe be around here or there if that's what the org asks of him. This isn't even debatable imo.

What is debatable is what the organization is asking of him.

I doubt Nash gives a damn either way. That rather moving missive was just an attempt at damage control. From now until the end of his contract he'll be eating Lakers dollars with his mouth closed.

I'm disappointed. I thought there would be more coming to the defense of Nash. I thought sure there would be someone saying he's not paid to mentor and such.

I am surprised that people really care. What Nash does doesn't affect the Lakers anymore, he is done.

Screw that! If you get paid to be on the team, you do what the coach asks of you. If it's mentoring, scrimaging, watching film, instructing players on how to shoot free throws, anything.. What's crazy is that there actually are some people think it's okay to basically steal millions and not even return a phone call from his coach.

If the team asks him to show up in a suit and sit on the bench, he should. He actually can help the team and he chooses not to, but he still cashes those checks tho!

If he's done, he should retire now. No more paycheck, no more responsibilities to the team that's paying him.

What is not debatable is that the organization is trying to get in touch with him and not receiving a response.

That isn't how it works, if he retires now he gets his paycheck. The only thing retirement could accomplish is the FO could ask for a roster exception.

It seems that way, and it would be smart of Byron to put the spotlight on Nash and take it off of his poor coaching job.

Can we withhold Nash's salary or something? Why do we have to put up with this?

There, Nash has called Byron. Everyone can now move on.

Byron should just offer him the Offensive Assistant job.

Back to making documentaries with the homer Bill Simmons about his time in LA to draw sympathy from fans. Thanks for nada...actually, getting angry at D12 on national television was kinda cool.

Since Nash doesn't actually have to play, I wonder if he'd be comfortable speaking freely to players about what problems he sees without worrying about his own chemistry with them.

I wonder how Nash responds. He had a great vacation these past couple months courtesy of Lakers FO.

This is great news!

Hope he can stay in Lin's ear enough so that he can improve to the point where the jury will decide to keep him here. Nash as a Laker is not done yet!

My prediction: Nash comes back to the team and helps mentor which will last for a couple of weeks. After two weeks, its Cancun, Cancun, Cancun and a round of golf.

We know Byron Scott can't coach.

And, its clear that Nash can't play.

But, instead of just asking Nash to assume the role of a mentor, why can't Nash become the coach?

We've finally got the pieces for an D'Antoni offense, but don't have D'Antoni anymore. Nash would seem like the next best thing then.

If we're going to pay him, I'd rather pay him to coach.

I think the Lakers would be happy to get ANYTHING from Nash.

He's like the disgruntled employee about to quit who knows all the legacy stuff no one else knows. As an employer, you take what-ever blood you can squeeze out of that stone before he quits.

Should have his butt sitting behind the bench in street clothes at every game. Positive locker room influence, mentor the PG's, and show his face. He owes LA that for the paychecks he's been collecting the last three years. It would be different if he'd accepted a medical retirement last season, but he didn't.

Steve wants the checks, but it doesn't seem like he wants anything else to do with the Lakers organization.
