If you want to see JC at his best, you've got to put the ball in his hands and run a lot of PNRs for him. Good things normally happen in those situations. I just don't want to see him iso so much.

At this point, I think we need to run JC at the back-up 1 with Hart as the back-up 2. We need that energy in our backcourt.

I agree with running JC at back-up 1 but Zo is going to play 32 to 35 minutes. That's not enough minutes for JC. He has to run both PG and SG. He has been so good at SG this year. Maybe SG first half and PG second half just like yesterday.

Well, they also ran interesting 3 guard lineups with 3 of: Lonzo/JC/KCP/Hart.

GT posted on Twitter last night that he would love to see more of this.

I agree completely. One of those four is going to be hot at any time. Start Zo and KCP and then play it by ear on the second half. Whoever is hot should get extended run.

Clarkson has started off hot. He started off really hot last year too and the comments about him then are very similar to what we are seeing now. His style of play just isn't conducive to consistency and when he goes into a funk and starts missing the same shots he's making now, people can't wait to sub him out of the game.

he had a big first game, but he did not get off to a good start last year....and there were not many positive comments related to Clarkson at the beginning to last season.

It's the pre-season that I also take into account. Really opened my eyes b/c he was playing much more unselfishly and efficiently.

Brought me back to my JC roots (I started this thread years ago... )

It was always a stupid plan to turn JC into just a scoring guard. At some point, our FO and coaching staff needs to prioritize putting all of our key players in the best position to succeed. After we drafted Dlo, I don't know why it was decided that JC wasn't allowed to run the point anymore.

the plan from Mitch was to run DLo and JC both as combo guards....it was Luke that wanted to show how smart he was and put JC on the bench which hampered his development.

You're right. Luke played the same card with Randle this season.

I appreciate the spark Clarkson provided last night. Good balance of hitting shots in rhythm and attacking. Nice feeds off drives.

Jordan Sparkson?
Reminds me of Jordin Sparks from American Idol.

Clarkson has started this season off very well let's hope this continues. Could he be in the discussion for sixth man of the year?

he will not be able to maintain the same level of production @ his current MPG (21.7). I would think at that level of PT....13-14 PPG would be solid.

I've been very low on Clarkson the previous 2 seasons because of his blackhole esque style of play but so far this season he's been on a tear offensively. Hopefully he keeps this up especially the 3pt shooting.

He also had some uncharacteristic nice defensive plays in the 2nd half that really lead the comeback.

I was impressed with his play last night, he went hard and was effective.

And he allowed Ball to play off ball when they were both in. I hope to see more of that in 4th quarters.

interesting....only 3 games in, but Clarkson's AST% mirrors his rookie season

2014/15 - 23.8%
2015/16 - 13.8%
2016/17 - 14.4%
2017/18 - 22.7%

More opportunities to run the show with Russell and Lou gone? Or did his car just exit the tunnel?

You could say he is now playing with fewer ball dominant guards. Neither Ball, Hart, Brewer nor KCP are the type to pound the ball into submission. These current guards may very well mesh with Clarkson better than Russell, Young and Lou did, given that they were much more ball dominant than the current crop.

He's shown flashes of good court vision but his willingness to pass it has been bad. So far this season he's been mostly making the right reads and hitting shots

That was easily the best I've ever seen Clarkson play on both ends of the floor. It was only a short stretch but he absolutely took over the game for awhile last night.
