I'm interested to see how teams defend DLO/Clarkson.
Clarkson last year was primarily defended by PGs?
It's a nice advantage I think for us to have 2 guys who are PG capable but enough size to guard most SGs. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

Clarkson is a scoring guard and that's exactly what you want him to do, score!
however, that is not the type of mindset that you want from your primary ball handler because the other 4 guys tend to stand around and watch. This is why people consider Russell the PG of this team instead of Clarkson. When Russell has the basketball there won't be any ball watching because players know they will get the ball if they get open (or they soon will).
Clarkson will still get his fair share of touches running the offense and I believe that he will look even better in this capacity because defenses won't be able to focus in on just stopping him.
Before everyone gets carried away with "he's not as good as Russell Westbrook", stop comparing JC to Westbrook now. Instead go back and look at his rookie year. Russell had higher averages, but those are misleading as he Russ averaged about 7 more minutes a game. Look a little closer and you will see he shot under 40% from the field and under 30% from 3. Clarkson was at 45% from the field and 31% from 3. In fact Russell's career shooting percentage is 43%/30% which are not exactly stellar. One of the reasons everyone complains about him shooting too much over Durant.
It is WAY too early to judge what Clarkson will become. All rookies struggle with defense and let's be honest...Lakers were bad everywhere. Team defense matters as much as individual defense. This year will really start to tell what Clarkson is going to be.

Westbrook could arguably be called the best athlete in the game last year but he didn't start off like that. He became better all around with hard work. It makes sense to watch Clarkson before we decide what he can't do.

It's funny how perception warps reality. Clarkson is viewed as a PG first and Beal as an SG first, but Clarkson looks bulkier and perhaps a bit taller. He should have no trouble playing the 2 next to DLo.
Beal is a good scorer. In that video Clarkson gets fooled by some good handles and footwork by Beal. Has to learn to follow the hips instead of the ball.
Great IQ
Team player
Hard worker
Elite athletically
Good passer
Elite mid range (47%FG mid range, cp3 territory)
Elite finisher (67%FG elite)
Elite taking care of the ball (A/T ratio shows this, without elite handles YET)
Not afraid of contact
what exactly is clarkson lacking ? Don't tell me Defense because how can you defend when you have westley, lin, kelly and black as your anchor? 3pt? okay how about the fact that almost all his 3pt came off the dribble because the lack of creators in the team? i would love to see his spot up %.
anyways I went thrugh the pain of watching this team last year because of him, i saw every single minute he was on the floor and those writing him off will see why not everyone is a scout.
I expect nothing less than 16ppg 5rpg 5apg but that's only due to the fact hat we are LOADED at the guard spot.

Clarkson still doesnt play any defense?
I thought he did a great job of pushing Beal into the paint. I hope to see a lot of that this season. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

It's crazy how he's so good with the ball despite his good but not great ball handling.
I wonder what's the possibility of him improving his handling like Curry did. Sky would be the limit
