You see him flash it, he just doesn't do it consistently enough.

A coach with a proper defensive system and/or developer can teach him better in that regard. Greg Pop turned LMA into a respectable defender.

That's why I take the defense from our young core with a grain salt. They are all very capable defenders, and players like Clarkson and Randle especially have the freak physical attributes to make themselves into very good defenders. They just need the proper teacher, and Byron is obviously very far from being as such.

It's all good.

Was it this time last year that JC started getting some playing time or was Ronnie price playing 35 mpg?

I do love his work ethic and attitude no doubt.

JC was starting by late January last year IIRC. (Pre-All Star Break)

He got the start when Price went down and logged in heavier minutes post-allstar.

Great game by JC last night.

The kid has a ton of confidence. He's fun to watch.

Young man has done nothing but improve and seems to have an even higher ceiling.

It mystifies me that so many are looking for ways to trade him away. Could probably include Randle in that mindset too.

So let's talk contracts. The options were stated in another page. But what would you pay him next year (if we did so we would take away from the 60m in cap space).

We could match every deal with the max he could make in first 2 years the MLE.

or not offer him anything and just take the QO of around 3m ish and risk pissing him off (though he has no other options since he's a RFA).

We lock him up. Simple as that. His max has the first two years being worth an MLE which is extremely generous for the Lakers this offseason. I had hoped the Lakers would have extended him last offseason to get a cheaper price but this is fine too.

Either way, the priority for the next couple of weeks is to shed salary and get rid of Lou Will, Young, Bass, etc.

I am probably in the minority. But I am paying him even if it does "take away from the cap space". Did not go back to see the actual numbers but as long as reasonable and he is earning his money. I am not trading him either.

IMO he is a solid foundation player that could develop in the next couple of years into a solid Sixth Man candidate or a reliable starter. Potentially borderline All-Star or better.

I realize most are targeting Derozan and the rest of the All Star free agent summer but IMO Clarkson is closing the gap to any SG free agents being mentioned. His versatility to play either PG/SG adds to his value. As I said, great bench option or dependable scorer role player to fit other player around.

I am probably not the best person to ask though. My limited vision does not match the gut the team and beg multiple free agents to come approach as most seem to have. I prefer the add players to the team and let them build some identity and chemistry approach.

Honestly, I just want to see Clarkson develop as a Laker.

I think he will get paid last as if we give him 12m off the bat we barely have enough for something like Droz/Whiteside. Optimally some team makes an offer so first 2 years capped at the MLE but not sure that will happen as most teams probably feel the lakers undoubtedly match it.

That's one thing I admire the most about Clarkson, never complains and always supportive of his teammates. A true professional, despite being in a contract year in just his 2nd season.

No updates on the game tonight?

JC looked good in that short stretch with DLO. Too bad he couldn't stay on the court longer with those early fouls. That 5th foul was brutal.

He'll bounce back against Cleveland. Just hope BScott gives him more run without Lou...

Does it matter? Neither plays much defense, though JC gives a much better effort. Lou, just doesn't care on that end.

Agreed. It's gonna be ugly no matter who guards him. Add Russell to that list too.

Was rhetorical

What I should of said was prepare for a career night from Irving
