Saw this while I was watching UFC Fight Night - Max Scherzer to Nationals for seven years. Great pick-up by them.

Wonder how much they are giving him?
7 years is a pretty long contract considering he'll be declining halfway into the contract at his age....

The deal is for $210 million with half deferred, FOX Sports reported. Scherzer reportedly will receive $15 million annually for 14 years.

Just saw that on the latest MLBTR update.. talk about an insane contract! They'll be paying him until he's 44. Here's an interesting twist:

Quote:
the deal includes a $50MM signing bonus that will be paid out “over a portion of time” for tax reasons. That bonus would, presumably, be included in the $210MM total. As Passan notes, the deferral makes the contract worth about $185MM in present-day dollars. (And MLB will calculate the value of the contract in present-day dollars for luxury-tax purposes, Rosenthal tweets.)

Bobby Bonilla would be proud of that contract.

crazy, and to think Kershaws contract is not that far off at 7 years/215
