I wonder how the Hawks players felt about that _________________ "My thirst for domination is fed only by the game. I refuse to get distracted by outside forces." - Kobe Bryant
If I was guarding Kobe, I'd be chanting his name too.... For two reasons. First, I'm a huge fan, and secondly, a defender chanting his name would probably confuse him and work towards my advantage... right?
Most of those Hawk players probably grew up Kobe fans so i doubt it bothers them that much
Exactly... Furthermore these Hawks fans grew up Kobe fans and their fathers were Magic Johnson fans. Atlanta is a Laker Town at the end of the day. _________________ Whenever the Lakers benefit all of a sudden rules need to be changed and trades need to be blocked.
Dude looked exactly like that player tonight. _________________ “It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”

Wow thanks for some of those videos. You never see that from other players _________________ "Bryant has been the second best player in the NBA for over a decade, but the number 1 player changes every other year. Ha! I still remember this game. I was in the crowd wearing a Laker Jersey. Live in Atlanta and one of the many Laker fans! I wish I could have made yesterday's game as well though. With that said, I still support the Hawks when they are not playing the Lakers.
Yeah, that next off-season was when they acquired KG and Ray Allen. Boston fans then booed Kobe the next time they saw him. Sorry Boston, the boos didn't make anyone forget the MVP chants.
It fascinates me that a few people actually think that it was Hawks fans cheering for Kobe in Atlanta, or Celtics fans cheering for Kobe in Boston. We hear this even though the TV shows images of fans wearing Lakers gear.
I guess there were a lot of tickets for sale in Atlanta on a Tuesday night for a game against a 1-9 team.

Exactly. It's the Laker fans doing the chanting. There are just a lot of Laker fans around the country who are taking advantage of the one game a year to cheer for their team.
Kobe Bryant usually draws a crowd on the road but this one was chanting "MVP, MVP" every time he stepped to the free throw line.
When Bryant hit the opening basket of the game Phillips Arena erupted.
As he, and his teammates, made big shots down the stretch, there was a considerable amount of cheering for the visitors.
Laker fans are everywhere but in Atlanta many people come just to see the other NBA teams and a good game. Not everyone there is a die-hard Hawk fan. Memphis has a lot of Laker fans too.

Same thing in DC...great place to catch a Laker game once a year. Huge number of Laker fans.
It blows my mind everytime to see how many Lakers fans are in each arena when we're on the road. Just the other day in Memphis if you were only listening to the game, you would thought we were the home team. The nba analyst in my country sounded confused, he was having trouble understanding what was going on. And we're talking about down years of the franchise

I've been to multiple Laker games in Atlanta and Memphis, its ALWAYS like that.
In fact people travel from surrounding areas (200 mile radius) annually just to see the Lakers play. The fans wear their LA gear and have an assortment of signs to display.
It's a beautiful thing!!!
People don't think it's the visiting team cheering for Kobe LOL.
It's the fact that there are enough Lakers/Kobe fans at the games in visiting arenas to make the chants that audible. It's not a common occurrence for most players to get that. So it is a feat worth celebrating.
