scoring and rebounding are his calling cards. i don't think defense is in his DNA at all, no aptitude and instinct at all for D so we cannot expect too much. definitely he contributes in other ways, as in Chicago when he was surrounded by guys like Noah and Butler, his flaws aren't as evident unlike on the Lakers now where everyone doesn't play defense well.

I love how a couple days ago we were calling these guys scubs. Now we're praising them and making appreciation threads

The "we" 's in these cases aren't exactly the same people.

The other problem with our defense is that we don't adapt to who were playing. IT's like we don't study film of the opponent, just our own film.

We hedge way too hard on every screen regardless of who has the ball. It could be a non-dribbling threat and we over play him as if he's CP3. It's insane. It's part of the reason why there are so many 3s. It blows my mind that more than 10 games in the coaching staff isn't ealizing teams are loving this and it's not sustainable. It's dependent on the other team missing open shots. This is the NBA not rec league.

Byron has to fix this. It's like he has one universal defensive principle.

Reading your post, something occurred to me. It's 100% speculation and probably wrong but anyway here goes:

You know the saying "You live by the three, you die by the three." Part of the implication of that statement is that there will be greater natural variation in the results of teams that shoot a large amount of threes: you'll win more games against better teams but lose more games against weaker teams. I wonder if BS thinks we're such a poor team (and such a poor defensive team in the paint) that it's better to goad teams into shooting threes, so that we can win a few more games when teams have cold shooting nights. The strategy won't help you get a top seed for the playoffs but it might, say, allow your team to win 25 games instead of 20. Just wild speculation.
