|
|
Hi All,
I'm unclear on how the Lottery works and how bad the Lakers need to finish to guarantee that they don't lose that pick to Phoenix.
Can anyone concisely explain this to me?
thank you |

This year, to keep the pick that is owed to PHX, need to have a top 5 pick.
Only way to GUARANTEE getting a top 5 pick is to have the bottom 2 spots. Philly has the worst record on lock. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Here are the odds based on the above chart
Bottom 2: 100%
Bottom 3: 96%
Bottom 4: 83%
Bottom 5: 55%
Bottom 6: 22%
Bottom 7: 14%
etc |

dear kobe: keep jacking up those shots.
dear boozer: good up with the good work on defense.
i'm happy if we end up with the 4th worst record in the league.. 83% chance to get a top 5 is pretty good. |

The first 3 picks are decided by a lottery. And all 16 non playoff team are eligible, with declining probability of winning. 25% to something like 1%
Then the rest of the picks are assigned in order by worst record.
If the 3 team who win the lottery have a better record than us, we would have to be the 2nd to worst team in the league.
If 2 teams with a better record than us win, we would need to be third worst, etc. |

Aside from Philly, who's worse than us?
Knicks are trying to make a run. Boston might try to out tank us but that would be hard. _________________ Go LA! |

Melo might have had a back problem on Monday night during the game against Houston. |

Lakers have too much pride to tank correctly. we will be in the bottom 7 again
Hopefully we get some love this year and land the top pick anyway |

The lottery is rigged, it's why the Cavs got all of those #1 picks. The league knows that the Lakers have to keep this pick and I think they will. |

If it is rigged (yea its rigged) I believe it is rigged to hurt the Lakers. The NBA still sees all the chips and feels we can always retool via free agency but unfortunately it isn't the case anymore. Yes, we're the premiere franchise in the NBA, so good or bad we'll still get viewership. .. is what they are think, in my opinion.

Damn, not even a month into the regular season, and it's come to this.
The sad state of affairs in the Lakers org.
Chick and Dr. Buss are rolling in their graves. |

Just win enough to be bottom 4, which probally will be <20 games. Just keep doing what we are doing. |

Let's assume for a moment the lottery is rigged (don't really want to get into that argument).
If it were rigged, I think it would be time for the Lakers to get some love. It would be a matter of economics. The whole profit sharing scheme the owners cooked up is reliant on the big market teams being successful and drawing money. LA is the second biggest market. It behooves the league to keep the team relevant. So, if the draft is really rigged, I think the Lakers keep their pick this year... maybe even the top pick.
I don't really subscribe to that conspiracy theory though. |

The small market teams likes seeing the Lakers struggle. |

or... we flip the switch, finish 1st (and win the championship of course) and let this be heard during draft night: "with the 30th pick of the draft, the Feenucks Suns select..." |

Well if it is indeed rigged, then I don't think small market teams would have any say in how its rigged. If anything, if I'm being a conspiracy theorist, I'd say bigger markets are controlling the moves made (which obviously isn't the case since Knicks and Lakers are literally (bleep)).
If the league was to rig the lottery, giving the Lakers a future franchise player would benefit them more then anything. |

Yeah Cuban himself said that he hopes the lakers fail forever. So I don't if there is any type of rigging going on that it would be for the lakers. We just have to hope come draft time that we are lucky. |

A lot of people knew where this season was going...Some chose to put their head in the sand and think there was a chance this team was going somewhere....to be honest the "experts" probably didn't think this team would be this bad, but they also didn't think this team would have so many injuries as well. |

Could anybody please explain also what will happen if the Lakers do not get to use this pick this year? Does it carry over to next year somehow? _________________ .
