I was thinking of this the other day. The Federal Agency was quick to point out that N. Korea was behind. Regardless of whether or not it was them, it's in the best interest of everyone to make it out as them. How bad would it be if they announced that it was just some anon hackers that scared the movie theaters into pulling a movie? _________________ LakersCardinalsRams

Actually, they weren't quick to blame them. Many just suspected them.
The blame didn't come until recently after gathering data.

Could it be possible North Korea is being framed?

Have you seen the Data or heard any North Koreans claim responsibility?

Yeah, I heard a good point yesterday, that if this were people who wanted to use the information for personal gain, they would have sold off all the SSN and personal data they hacked instead of just releasing it. They wanted to make Sony hurt, that's it.

Nope. Just pointing out that the Feds didn't declare it was N. Korea early on. Instead they are only feeling comfortable enough to say it recently.
Actually, the last I heard is that the hack itself isn't from N. Korea. It's from a Chinese group that N. Korea contracted.
Not sure how they got that info. Obviously they know more than any of us.

What I was saying about the announcement coming early is that shortly after the big name movie theaters had pulled the movie, Sony decides to cancel the release as well and then the reports about N. Korea came in shortly after that. How convenient for all of that to happen. Yes the emails were hacked nearly a month ago and they could have been doing their investigation since then, but it seems very fishy that they'd make the announcement around the time when things started to get out of hand.
As for the Chinese group contracted by N. Korea, it goes along with the conspiracy theory that's been concocted in my head _________________ LakersCardinalsRams

N. Korea was blamed for hacking into S. Korean computers in 2013 in what was dubbed the Dark Seoul attack.
Quote:
The Dark Seoul attack wasn't the first time South Korea has pointed fingers north. (And won't be the last.) Others aren't so sure. Some blame China. Others, like security software maker Symantec, blame the mysterious “Dark Seoul Gang,” which Symantec reports is a well-organized group of 10 to 50 hackers—though of course that tells us nothing about who they are, where they are, or what their motivations are. Is it North Korea? Is it Anonymous? Are they the same?

It is interesting how there are news reports that US officials are already considering cyber attacks against North Korea and that the hack itself, not the threats, are a national security concern...
I don't see how hacking a Japanese entertainment company is a national security risk to the great ol USA? I can agree that the threats are of serious concern.
They are thinking it is NK WITH HELP FROM IRAN.. How convenient...
Do we need to test/audition our CyberAssault Forces?

Sony Pictures was formerly called Columbia Pictures, has been a US owned company for most of its entire life, until Sony bought it in the late 80's, early 1990's. I think the US government is interested in this because it exposes vulnerabilities in computer systems, not only at the corporate level but also on the government level. If an government with very little access to modern technology can pull off a hack, whats to stop better equipped nations from doing something similar? And it has been done if you look at all the corporate espionage taking place from Russia and China.
Not gonna lie, I'm dying to see this movie right now. Heard a lot of people say it was funny, and I love Seth Rogan movies. I haven't been to a movie theater in years (I use Netflix and in-demand), but I would go for this.
U.S. officials also tell CNN the hackers routed the attack through servers in countries from Asia, Europe and Latin America, even some in the U.S.
The hackers used common DNS masking techniques to make it look like it was coming from those places, but the National Security Agency and FBI were able to track it back to North Korea.
