According to ESPN's Chad Ford...
Quote: | That leaves the Los Angeles Lakers front office in need of a trade and Brook Lopez could be a target of Mitch Kupchak and company according to ESPN’s Chad Ford.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, while they may have interest in the talented though oft-injured big, they may not have the pieces needed to get a deal done.
The Lakers could be motivated as the only way they even land a lottery pick is if they get a Top 5 pick. They are cutting it very close. The problem of course is that the Lakers don’t have much to offer the Nets outside of cap relief and Billy King isn’t trying to do what’s best for the organization, he’s trying to save his job. |

It looks like the Lakers probably need to find a 3rd team suitor if they really want Lopez.... it is nice to hear though that the Lakers are active in the trade-front. |

Yeah, it's nice to know, but Brook Lopez? _________________ LeBron, AD, & _________. Stay tuned.

I would think it's fortunate that we couldn't trade for Lopez. _________________ LeBron, AD, & _________. Stay tuned.

I think getting Williams is more realistic then Lopez... the Nets probably want a bonafied all-star big for him... |

Andrew Bynum, Michael Beasley, Josh Smith, Brook Lopez, Deron Williams.
Kobe 2.0, why are you so obsessed with garbage?

With nothing else to talk about... and the season a big question mark. I searched for Laker news in the yahoo search engine and found this piece today written by Chad Ford..... yes getting Lopez probably won't happen but the bigger news is that the Lakers are active in trying to do something... that is what we fans want to hear. |

I changed the title to more accurately reflect the situation. But here's my issue with posting something like this as if it's "news" ---
If you follow the links you will see that during an online chat, someone asks Chad Ford if the Nets would trade any of their big 3 then asks the hypothetical question of where could he be traded, and would the Lakers be a potential trade partner...to which Chris Ford gives the above completely speculative answer. This is more along the lines of fans speculating in the Trade & Free Agency forum.
So, OP -- that's why people get annoyed with a thread like this and the way you initially titled the thread as if it was legit news. |

And most people don't need to read speculation to know that the Lakers will try to do something. It's not news, big or small, it's called the NBA.
Of course, I have some info of my own that I will share. The Lakers are looking very closely at a good player with their draft pick. They are also very interested in making moves that improve the team by using a combination of cash, draft picks and trades. |

It makes sense though. We are in need of a rim protector and Lopez has gotten 2 blocks per game during his career. In addition to his shot blocking, Lopez is also a good back to the basket center, though not a great rebounder. His contract is not that bad either at 15 million this season and a player option for another 15 million next season. He would be a good stop gap player, since it is going to be a weak 2015 free agent class. His contract is more reasonable then players like DWill and Joe Johnson. Not sure what it would take to get him though. Maybe Jordan Hill, Steve Nash and the Houston pick for Lopez gets it done? This trade doesn't eat in to our 2015 cap space too bad since it's a weak free agent class anyway. |

For the 10 games or so he would be healthy enough to play each season. |

I don't think it gets to WHEN, it's IF HEALTHY. That's the very first obstacle...basic health to function (i.e. pick up your suitcase without going to the ER) outside of the hospital/house. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I like Brook... when he plays. After dealing with the Nash fiasco, I would enjoy steering towards players with a better health history. _________________ Don't make me give you a trout slap! |

lol since he's already injury prone, he might be healthy once he joins the lakers. cuz healthy players always get injured when they come to our team. if nets are willing to take hill and nash contact for lopez, I would take a gamble on Lopez. Hill is not a true center. And he's not much of a defender. |
