Have the starter had any good first quarters since Byron moved Boozer and Lin to the bench? NONE!!!!

It is insane

perhaps I think the boozer and young take the ball out of lin's hands? boozer shoots every time he gets it and has bad shot selection at times. his drives to the basket are usually not great.

young can get into a lull for wanting to shoot too much. leaves lin little options since he prefers a screen - him ending up giving the rock up to someone who will likely shoot it anyway.

lin is part of the problem too, he needs to just learn how to say no and prove himself. the whole reason why lin played well and inspired baskteball on the knicks is because his teammates respected him, as well as the coach. doesnt seem like the lakers door embody playing teamball as much.

Lin is the floor general with that second unit, he should be setting the pace. He should be the "Kobe" out there with that unit, barking orders and taking control of the players on the floor. He just cannot do that. He is usually very predictable: dribble dribble, try to pass on the baseline, or shoot and get blocked or get the ball pooked out of his hands. We need a PG that is a threat to score, and he just isnt. Regardless of how good his P&R is, when the opposing team's PG rests on D, they have more energy to burn us on O.

BS is not allowing him to play the way Lin needs to play. That is how BS wants him to play, just like you describe it. not his fault or the team's faults. BS just sucks!!!

Lin is starting to miss McHale.

Umm, they just had good first quarters against the Spurs and T-Wolves.

But really this about it being a back-to-back. There is a difference between the starters struggling a bit versus struggling a lot in the first quarter. There needs to be a better balance on minutes in the 1st quarter on back-to-backs. BS has tried to limit minutes overall on back-to-backs but can still do better in the first quarter, especially considering Swaggy is back.

Lakers previous back-to-back games:

Oct 28 vs Houston - Lakers LOSE 108-90 - Strs: 132 mins Bch: 108 mins - Minus -12 end of first
Oct 29 at Phoenix - Lakers LOSE 119-99 - Strs: 125 mins Bch: 115 mins - Minus -14 end of first

Nov 18 at Atlanta - Lakers WIN 114-109 - Strs: 160 mins Bch: 80 mins - Plus +9 end of first
Nov 19 at Houston - Lakers WIN 98-92 - Strs: 171 mins Bch: 70 mins - Minus -2 end of first

Dec 2 at Pistons - Lakers WIN 106-96 - Strs: 149 mins Bch: 91 mins - Even ~0 end of first
Dec 3 at Wizards - Lakers LOSE 111-95 - Strs: 132 mins Bch: 107 mins - Plus +6 end of first

Dec 14 at T-Wolves - Lakers WIN 100-94 - Strs: 139 mins Bch: 101 mins - Plus +3 end of first
Dec 15 at Pacers - Lakers LOSE 110-91 - Strs: 121 mins Bch: 121 mins - Minus -19 end of first

You have to take into account that the first quarter includes bench play.

Look that the offensive and deficiency ratings for the past 5 games with the new starting lineup. It's absolutely horrid:

http://stats.nba.com/team/#!/1610612747/players/advanced/?Period=1&LastNGames=5&sort=NET_RATING&dir=-1

Per 100 possessions:

Ronnie Price -57.6
Wes Johnson -47.0
Ed Davis -40.1
Jordan Hill -39.8
Kobe Bryant -26.6

I thought we were playing bad against Spurs until the bench came in in the first quarter. Perhaps BScott's strategy is to try not to lose so much with the starters and then have a strong bench trying to get the win. kidding... I have no idea what he is doing...

Yeah, i'm hoping BS uses the bench waay earlier in the 1st quarter. I understand he is trying to build a defensive team, but the starters seemed mentally tired last game (could have been fatigue and jet lag). The bench seemed a bit tired as well, but probably more likely they were discouraged from that huge hole created early.

I personally like the starting lineup, because I really believe in a grind-it-out kind of defensive team. The offense will come together eventually and adjustments will certainly be made.

BS is doing a good job in my opinion. If we would have won many of our closer games this season, many of us would probably have more patience with his defensive game plan.
