just on ESPN that the Laker's TV viewers are down 28% this year.
Since the payment for the Lakers TV contract are reportedly tied to the overall ratings, this may be interesting.
Without knowing what the payment schedule is, it's hard to speculate though

I thought some of you might be interested..

That's a pretty big drop.

This all but ensures that in 2015 free agency, for better or worse, the team will spend money on free agents that aren't placeholders.

shocking! im one of them 28 percent. I didnt order NBA league pass this year. If they were halfways decent i would, but this crap? no no no. Can call me a fake fan or whatever, but its not worth spending the money to put me in a bad mood for about 60 loses this year.

If they were at least in contention for the play offs or an outside shot, i'd probably watch, but there is nothing positive that can come from the 2014 season because Randle is out. Its just not good basketball.

it also means they will try to win now and screw the strategy for the top 5 pick

That's hard to believe that it's down 28% from last season's debacle? This will register to the Buss family more than any boos or Kobe tirade ever could.

Funny, but I'm a lot more interested in watching a bad team with Kobe than a bad team without. I've only missed 1-2 games this season, where last year I only saw 1-2.

I will add to this that the team just had its first home non sellout against the Kings. That was before the 3 game road trip.

Last year, I don't think we had a home non sellout until about 52 games into the season. This season it happened only 22 games in.

If the team thought Kobe or Lin or Swaggy were going to keep the fans interested, that strategy doesn't seem to be paying off at the moment. Losing trumps everything I guess.

The big bosses at TWC will probably summon a meeting with the Buss family in order to get their act together. They need the advertising revenue to make the numbers work. If people aren't watching, the ad revenue goes down.

THE MEETING

TWC: "We brought this gift basket with flowers and chocolate heart candies."
Jeannie: "Oh thank you"
TWC: "It's not for you."
Jim: "Umm... thank you?"
TWC: "Not for you."
Jeannie: "Who is it for then?"
TWC: "You will take this and give it to D'antoni along with a letter of apology and a video of Mitch begging him to come back."

How big of a drop was it from the year before last? I'd be interested in those #'s.

I tried to watch but its too ugly and I get angry at BS with his love for some scrubs, rotations, etc. Most of the roster is filled with rentals that I don't care to follow.

Same here, didn't get the league pass and I don't really watch the games so often. I was planning to get it till the Mavs dropped 140 points on us, changed my mind real quick!!!!

And they should. Unless they overpay someone to such a crazy degree they can always be moved. Get assets.

That's kind of hard to believe unless there's a way to tell when viewers change channels.

I don't miss a televised game. I do switch reels when the games get out of sight.

If you have a set top cable decoder or integrated DVR, your cable provider knows exactly what you are watching and when
The Lakers have a contract with TWC based on viewership - and since they're providing the content, they know exactly who and how many are watching it.

Anyone know if the decline is of Laker games only, or all TWC collectively? I know a ton of casual fans that simply aren't interested.

I'd shudder to imagine how bad it'd be without Kobe..45% decline might not be too much a stretch of the imagination

someone did comment that the Clips were down 10% too, or something like that

Yeah I heard that. I heard 9% but yeah both are down. People think they want parity but they don't.
