Mavs seem to be front runners...Lakers among other suitors.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12045409/rajon-rondo-subject-boston-celtics-dallas-mavericks-trade-talks

Looks like its a done deal to Mavericks.

do it. trade 1 and get a first rounder lol. so we have no big man and a point guard who cant shoot. would like to see kobe get doubled kicking to rondo to build a house of bricks. or rondo trying to play off ball like all pgs playing with Kobe have to do. lmao... at what point do we start to question Mitch.

he made that horrible nash trade
let world peace go for wesley johnson lol
couldnt keep dwight
surrounded dwight and kobe team with a bunch of old guys like blake and jamison
stuck out on melo
refuses to tank
that kobe extension
no free agents in 2015

Not a fan of trading for Rondo. He's injury prone, and even if he stays healthy there is a huge risk of him just straight up walking at the end of the season. I'd also worry about a guy as ball dominant and unable to shoot as Rondo meshing with Kobe.

Sacramento owner is a nutcase. I have a feeling they will make a ridiculous offer Boston can't refuse.

Kobe doesn't go have breakfast during the season with someone he is going to play against unless there is something in it for him.

Mitch wave that magic wand!

why in the world would kobe handle the ball with Rondo on his team?? kobe is an excellent off ball mover.

if anything he needs to be spoon feed at this stage of career.

gosh at 36 or 37 that dude is playing SG + PG. thats sad

trading for rondo would be a terrible move. he's really not that good.

horrible shooter. bad efficiency. overrated defender. guy had kg/pierce/allen and yet those celtics teams were consistently bottom 10 offenses. there is a reason for that.

also his game would be a horrible fit next to bryant. this team already has the (bleep) spacing and people want to add rajon rondo?

"Due to the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement, the Celtics couldn’t offer Rondo a maximum contract extension for $100 million this summer even if they wanted to. The best deal Boston can offer Rondo prior to next season is a three-year extension worth about $45 million over the length of a deal.

That’s not a sweet enough offer to entice Rondo to re-sign now, which makes it highly likely the guard won’t ink an extension with the team this summer. The extension request Maxwell is likely referring to in his interview is the deal Boston can offer next summer when Rondo’s contract expires.

At that point, the team could present their captain with a five-year contract worth nearly $105 million. Rondo’s reps may have indicated to the Celtics that this is the kind of deal the guard will be seeking. Other teams can only offer Rondo four-year deals if he hits free agency market in 2015 and roughly $80 million dollars over the duration of the deal."

If Rondo is traded, will the new team be able to offer Rondo that 5 year, max contract deal he apparently seeks, just like Boston this summer?

its not about paying Rondo 5yr max, its about who he attracts in 2016 and beyond.

Yes because they will have his Bird Rights.

33. How long must a player be with one team before the Larry Bird exception can be used?

Quote:

The basic idea is that a player must play for the same team for three seasons for his team to gain Bird rights (two seasons for Early Bird rights). It can be a single three-year contract, a series of three one-year contracts, or any combination that adds up to three seasons (or two for Early Bird). However there are a number of complications:

When a player is traded, his new team inherits his Bird rights. For example, if a player signs a three-year contract, plays two and a half seasons with that team, and is traded at the trade deadline in the third season, then his new team has full Bird rights following the third season.

I said this before and ill say it again, Rondo leads the league in trip dubs and avg 7 rbs a game(more than lebron). We would be lucky to get him on this team.

If Lakers are in the running, they'll be offering a pick. Presumably the Houston #1.

Wojnarowski and Spears over at Yahoo are characterizing the Mavs as "motivated suitors".

Mentions other possible trade destinations, but NOT the Lakers.

It all depends on what Rondo would command contract-wise after the season if he is worth the pursuit.

He certainly is not a max player at this stage, if that is what he would be searching for.

I'm a big Rondo fan but I'll play devil's advocate here.

Houston's pick is not the only thing we'd be losing. We'd be bringing in a guy who would no doubt make us a better team. Consequently, we'd lose our top 5 pick for sure... we're already headed that way but we really can't get any better than we already have played with our current roster while other teams (Char, Det, Minny) can and should all improve.

We'd also be signing a guy who may not be the easiest to build around nor attract top tier free agents.

We need to keep our pick, acquire as many other picks as possible and build through the draft. We could end up with an OKC like core or move those pieces to bring in stars the way Boston did in 2007/8 and the way Houston nabbed Harden.

Suck this year, get a top 5 pic, use Houston's pick wisely and then try and sign Rondo if we feel like he could make us that much better
