Whoa, Tarik might only be 6'8 or 6'9, but his wingspan is 7'2.75 and his standing reach is 8'11. For good measure, Karl Towns is currently rated at 7.'3.5, and our guy randle is at 7'0.
And another one for good measure: Ed Davis has a wingspan of 7'2... a guy who we think is a great shot blocker. |

I suppose you could do that at the beginning of the season, although I don't know how I feel about it. Randle will be well over his injury by then and it wont be an issue. Randle brings a lot of skills to the table that Black cannot. He just needs minutes to gain experience. |

Quote: | Amid all the unanswered questions surrounding how the Lakers assemble their roster this offseason, it appears they reached clarity on one matter.
It appears the Lakers seem set on retaining rookie forward/center Tarik Black, who has a non-guaranteed contract worth $850,000 next season.
“We get another year to look at him,” Lakers coach Byron Scott said, “and see what he’s got and go from there.” |

8 pts 7 rebs not bad but looking to go out with a bang in the last game.
A DOUBLE-DOUBLE would be a fitting last game stat line.
GO TB, GO LAKERS!! |

Will Black be back?
My guess is probably - especially if we don't re-sign Davis. |

He has a minimum unguaranteed contract of course he will be back, even if we re-sign davis
The only scenario where he does not play for us next season is if he is traded _________________ Kobe |

he's got a great attitude. great work ethic.. wants to improve..
he could be a great back up for Randle and a solid NBA player.
he needs a jumper though.. at his size.. he's gotta have one. |

TB will play more at back-up center than at PF.
I'm sure he will be working hard in the off season to improve every aspect of his game. |

Tarik Black is #1 in FG% among all rookies!
Quote: | Since joining the Lakers, Black has played in 60 games while averaging 5.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, compiling a 57.1 field goal percent during the process.
Not only is his field goal percentage best among all rookies, but his ability to clean the boards and throw down monstrous dunks has certainly raised his stock significantly in the Lakers’ eyes. |

I really hope he adds something to his game over the summer (jumper/better postmoves). Work with Nash on his shooting stroke and work with Kobe with his footwork. Two of the best at what they do. |

Do you seriously think Nash will have anything to do with the Lakers once his contract is up this summer? The answer is NO.
Nobody is going to be working with Nash on anything. |

Despite a strong finish Tarik fell out of the top 10 in the final ranking from the NBA Rookie Ladder

It helps, but it's not a necessity given that he's a backup playing 15-20 minutes a game. |

He's a rebounder. Like Stu says there are rebounders and there are people that get rebounds. He is a Charles Oakley/Reggie Evans type player, but more athletic. There will ways be a spot in the league for somebody like him. Hopefully this will push Randle and whatever other front court players to work hard to get rebounds or we will put somebody in that could. |

Undrafted Tarik Black exceeds expectations in rookie campaign
Quote: | ACCORDING to Black, who played center for L.A. even though he says he is only 6-foot-9 while wearing sneakers (don’t trust those roster listings that put him at 6-11), the Lakers’ brass spoke highly of his potential. They said he can become an effective undersized presence in the paint, much like a Charles Barkley, for example. Black isn’t going to become an NBA MVP like Sir Charles, but the confident young man has high expectations for himself. |

That's great to hear that the Lakers value him a lot it seems.
Makes it that much more likely that the Lakers are for this rebuild and building a real core foundation here. _________________ Darvin Scam: https://media.tenor.com/images/3c15249955860a4b16b59e8ae035fb75/tenor.gif |

I ran a few of Black's statistics, and while I was impressed by eye test, the numbers were even better than I thought. Here are his Points per possessions on his most common offensive possessions:
Pick and Roll, Roll Man- 1.15 (81.4 percentile)
Putbacks- 1.12 (58.0 percentile)
Transition- 1.60 (99.3 percentile)
Cut- 1.13 (40.6 percentile)
Post Up- .85 (53.6 percentile)
While the percentile looks low on cuts, it is still elitely efficient overall, and while his post ups aren't greatly efficient, he is nonetheless pretty average there. But he is elite as a roll man and in transition, by efficiency. And all of those things he does with the exception of posting up are absolutely great by efficiency numbers.
On defense, they don't keep a lot of stats for things like cuts and putbacks, but his defensive PPP on post ups is .68 (87.6 percentile), and on the roll man is .83 (62.3 percentile). While not an anchor, he defends his man well down low and is really pretty good on pick and roll coverage as well. |

Will probably cost 1/5th or 1/6th of what Ed Davis makes. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |
