Good to see the improvements but I still read the walls to tell me what's going on. 18th street is now down by Manchester and Century running along Fig. Compton still have the Ese's and blacks beefing. If you compare them to now, it's a major improvement. Many of the triple OGs have come home from 2O-25 year bids and I know many of the eight trey OGs came home and regulated.

You still see many knuckleheads hanging out and claiming sets but those sets that were battlefields in the 70-80s are vastly improved. Usta here the helicopters and police every night especially on Sunday nights when the 60s and Treys went at it.

Good post. I know first hand that the blacks and ese's are still beefing in Compton and its no end in sight.

black and brown are gonna beef for a while and the brown are slowing winning. most of the black folks are moving out to the suburbs and the brown are moving in. Go out to Moreno Valley, you'll see many of the OG's now out there - in some parts turning MoVal into Compton. Damn shame.

I still live in Compton.

Moved here from mexico in 1991.. 28 now..

I'm much like you dough, no one scared me more than my pops and I made damn sure to stay away from gangs.

That never stops the interaction with them though, countless friends of mine joined gangs.. I always played soccer at school and was one of the better players and most of the gang members played soccer too. Luckily that brought some sort of immunity.

Got pulled into a few fights where I always had to defend myself instead of getting my ass kicked.. I've always been skinny, but I tried my best to hold my own.

I've seen people get killed in front of my house.. literally. Pretty terrible, trying my best to work myself out of here, but when you grow up and your parents don't have a dime to their name, (bleep) aint easy.. I cant exactly pack up and bail on em now that I have a good job.

The city I'm in had 1 homicide in 2014 and it was within a 1 min walk from my house. A 20-something guy that lived close-by was involved in a triangle of sorts, god knows what the reason was, most likely illicit, but at 3am, I was awake watching telly and I heard 5 pops. There were 2 quick shots (the catch-em-by-surprise shots) and then 3 spaced shots (the finishers). With it being about 25 yrs since I last heard actual gunshots (at a range), I knew someone got capped. I was texting Hannah-butt (poster Birmingham's GF; a saucy British exotic mix; nice arse) at the moment. I told her, "I'm pretty sure someone just got killed outside my house." Then the cops were out there within minutes. I knew it was not good because the ambulance showed up and stayed on site for a few hours, meaning the victim didn't need one. They left him lying still whilst investigating. Street was blocked off for 12 hrs. The paper said the guy was waiting to meet with a woman and she brought another guy with her who killed him. The victim staggered a few feet and fell into some shrubs at a neighbor's house.

But I'm safe. I think.

You can definitely see it. My brother coaches at Compton High. At one point in the 90's and early 2000's all 3 schools in Compton were good in basketball and Football. The black population is so down in the City that it hurts the athletic teams.

what does your brother coach?

I went to Compton high from 2000-2004. I remember Aaron Afflalo (sp?) was hot stuff back then. The freshman bball team for Centennial High was one of the best in the state at the time.

I still remember some BIG fights broke out a few times in the gym during gym class (which read "Blue City" at the time)... everyone just booked it lol. Just think about the (bleep) I went through in Compton high sometimes.. I just laugh man.

I remember Compton in the 80's. Mostly Black, homes in the $25,000 range, backyards big enough to build another house. It's gone to the dumps. I bought in Carson for $32,500. Small lots, could look into your neighbors kitchen window. It's a constantly change world.

yeah, that's rough ...... good job on sticking with the folks. Just sucks these idiots can't put the hate and guns down and enjoy all this sunshine. Compton doesn't have to be like this.

Basketball. He graduated in 2001 from Compton High. The late 90's though, man Centennial was good, Compton was good with David Hamilton and Tito Maddox, Dominguez was a powerhouse with Tyson Chandler, Kenny Bruner, Tayshaun Prince, Jason Thomas.

While in college between the ages of 17 to 20 I had a crap load of funky jobs. Anywhere from Office Clerk to Jewelry Exchange salesmen to gym worker to doing medical reports to damn repo man to driving Escorts around to hotels meet their John's to dios knows what else. For a few months my buddy Alfredo (big ass mexican dude) got us part time jobs as movers for Mayflower. There was another worker who was on our "team", Earl, I swear to god homeboy looked just like M.C. Eiht. Well we get a call to move a house somewhere in south central. It was just us three and the driver. After we finished at the house and loaded up the truck we took a little 10 minute break and decided to walk to the liquor store down the street for snacks. As we are crossing the street, all of a sudden I see M.C. Eiht Earl looking around kinda weird. Then me and Alfredo look at each other like oh (bleep) lol. There were about 10 guys on one side of the street wearing Blue, about the same directly on the other side of the street wearing Red, and here we are in the right middle of the (bleep) street in between them wearing all Green.

The blue and red scene sounds like the beginning of Colors where it was all Piru vs Crip between the cells. Favo quote, "Ay, Hodges, why da (bleep) is Pac Man on ME fuh?!"

Pac Man = rogue cop by 2014 standards. Hodges = wise cop.

Either Colors or the scene in Beat It where the gangs meet and the leaders have the knife fight over Eddie's solo. I wanna know, Dladi, if you stayed long enough to see if they recreated that scene or if you guys just beat it. You were playin with your life, this ain't no truth or dare?

We didn't want to be boys, we wanted to be men but the fire was in their eyes and their words were really clear so we beat it, we just beated it.
