People are calling him the next Andrew Bynum minus the injuries. He's been beasting on the Heat like Bynum from the early 07/08 season.

What a nice pickup for them. I'm just surprised that he flew under our radar since we are in desperate need of a legitimate center and he stated in an article that the Heat were the only ones to take a chance on him.

Nothing like Bynum. One is an elite post scorer and the other can hit a jump hook a couple times a game. He's a great deal this offseason compared to Deandre Jordan. I hope this kids from the westcoast..

1. He's NOT Bynum.
2. He's been a project FOREVER.
3. He always had the physical tools, but not always the motor.

Whiteside looks to be on the path of Gerald green. After meandering around for years, he finally decides to make some money. Whiteside's always been an elite shot blocker but you never know if he can get double digits in rebounds and points.

If his recent offensive numbers aren't fluke, he'd be a nice addition next to Davis. 2 rim defenders with your wings scrambling to chase guys off the arc would make B scott happy. Scoring, well, that will be an issue.

Butler will be matched but Dragic/Butler/Kobe/Davis/Whiteside should keep teams in the 90s. Just need 20/22/15/10/10 plus what you get from Swaggy and the bench to offset the limited offensive games of whiteside/davis. Good core until Kobe retires then you can entice a superstar.

He's a UFA, would you attempt to sign him since maybe, like Gerald Green, the light has finally come on?,

Chances are, he stays with his current team.

This is why I like athletic project players. ONce they get it, they're very productive.

Sure, I'd try to get him, but not at MLE money or anything. He hasn't earned it yet.

You think Miami's going to throw MLE money at him?

No player is an exact copy but his pick and rolls with Wade looked a LOT like Bynum/Kobe circa November 2007.

I hear his time overseas matured him a lot and put some fire in his heart. At 7ft 280 with 6% bodyfat he's like a bigger version of Dwight, except with a nice touch around the rim.

Either way like you said I doubt he leaves the Heat, but I'd try at least.

I see him listed at 236. Granted, listed weight isn't always accurate (we all know Shaq was WAY over the 315 he was listed at) but just seeing pictures of him, he doesn't have a huge build with the massive boulder shoulders like Dwight has. Granted he's a legit 7 footer.

In any event, glad he's doing well...hopefully if he keeps it up and we can get him, wouldn't be a bad big on the roster.

I saw a selfie pic he had that was posted on realgm and the dude's RIPPED. Like you could fit two Ryan Kellys in him. I think 280 might have been his Memphis weight but I'd say 260 is believable for him.

Damn, Whiteside had 12 blocks, 14 points and 13 rebounds in only 25 minutes of playing time.

Been in the league since 2010. Played D League and overseas. This is the first I've heard of him.

He led the Heat to a win over the Bulls today.

If he continues to play the way he did today, no way the Heat let him get away.

@ESPNSteinLine: Heat, for the record, signed Hassan Whiteside on Nov. 24 to a bargain two-year contract. This season: $769,881. And next season: $981,348

Its more that he finally got the message that he needed to work on his game....I believe there was an article about this that he was hard to work with when he first came into the league...then when he washed out he finally got the message that the NBA can move on without him, so he worked his way back into the league with a different type of mentality.

This guy's having an insane year:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=i-pT5eau4K8&x-yt-cl=85114404&x-yt-ts=1422579428

Doesn't seem to be translating to a lot of wins for the Heat though. You'd think a guy who can get 20/10/5 on any given night would, alongside Wade/Bosh/Deng, lead a team like the Heat to the top 4 in the East.
