That, my friend, is why they made Urologists. _________________ “It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”

Do they make more money than other kinds of docs? How does one decide they're going that route? Eech. I guess it's a noble profession, but just a little less so than a cardiologist or a neurosurgeon. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

They do well financially and it is one of the more competitive residencies to obtain a spot in. My medical school roommate ultimately became a pediatric orthopedist but he considered urology when he did his rotation because he said they did cool surgeries when they had to do them. Most of their stuff seems pretty mundane though IMO. _________________ “It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”

It's so variable though. A cardiologist who is an interventionalist or an electrophysiologist can make a million a year and a Neurosurgeon who only does backs can push that as well, or even greater. ER docs can make as little as $200K or over $500K depending on their situation. Before you decide, speak to someone outside of the medical school about financial considerations. In the academy, it's considered rude, but you do have a right to know how much you can expect to make in your field, especially considering all the years and debt you'll put into it. _________________ “It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”

Or Smush. He said smushiologists earn into the millions and they're known to be error prone. Matter of fact, if you recall, Dr. Buss actually tried to sue Smush for malpractice. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

Hm. I take from that that the types of surgeries often presented can be a draw, especially for those docs that want challenging work; and I get the impression from seeing a variety of physicians in action that a lot of them ultimately take the field they want to be in. As I think you've even told me, you WANT to do ER. I can only go by what I've seen on telly (Trauma: ER show, etc) that a lot ER docs DO wanna be there. They like the action and the immediacy of the results (clear cut helping people survive on the spot, as you know). It's also a draw for those who want to impact their community in the most direct of ways. I wish I would've had the inspiration to be a physician when I was younger. Most fortunate among us are those who somehow know what their calling is, it's a great equalizer and a real gift. The innate drive can push someone with fewer means to heights with a lot of hard work. Hard work that may even be a little less daunting because it's so goal driven. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
