Not an enviable position to be in.

If my family member was murders, my first inclination would be execution. But that is with the bias of being directly affected.

After the family has had ample time to process the situation, they may want punishment that doesn't include death. But a "pardon" doesn't really guarantee that there will be punishment. And even if there is, will it be enough or a slap on the wrist.

And then the idea of getting "blood money" just feels wrong to those who may not have grown up in a culture where that is thought of as acceptable.

He will definitely get more than a slap on the wrist. The guy is Kenyan, not an Arab.

Wait, so they can choose the death penalty, or they can let him live (and imprisoned), and will be compensated with a large amount of money? Kind of confusing.
