I would have easily went with Kobe at the start of the year and Jimmy Butler about a month ago, but Klay Thompson's performance the other day makes it really tough. I just don't think Butler has that type of range or scoring ability, though he's clearly the better defender.

Klay has taken a leap this year but I don't think he could carry a team like Harden can.

I think it's easily Harden. However a lot of LG fans hate the Rockets so that will take away a lot of his votes. Ultimately, I think Harden will win this poll slightly over Thompson.

Klay is the better defender and shooter but Harden runs the offense and has more responsibility. So I'll take Harden.

It's Harden, and it's not that close. He scores about as effectively as a first option as Klay does as a second option. He generates double the assists and rebounds. I'd rate Klay as a marginally better defender, but neither of them are stoppers.

I understand the Harden hate. He's a flopper. But he's easily the best SG in the league right now.

This. I'm sure the timing of this thread (Klay's recent 37 points in a quarter) is also playing a big role.

What about Jimmy Butler? He's a lockdown defender.

Right now Harden but Klay is right there because his defense is better than Harden's. Harden can just get 30 so easily at times. Love the emergence of Butler as well.

Go back and forth between thompson and harden. Can't go wrong with either.

Harden by far. The other guys being mentioned don't have anything close to his overall responsibility. With that being said, I do think Klay could thrive as a main option. I don't think he could be the playmaker for others that Harden is though.

Maybe better to wait a bit more in the season than do a month-by-month review? Admittedly you said it went from Kobe-Butler-Klay all in the span of a few months. Probably Harden but maybe Klay then Butler comes strong...who knows.

I hate him, but it's Harden.

Prefer Klay.

I find it remarkable that Butler has gone from overlooked to overrated so quickly. He had a hot start to the season offensively, but has slowly regressed to the mean. Some people think that he is some sort of defensive monster. When I've watched the Bulls, his defense has never stood out to me. The metrics say that Harden and Thompson are more effective defenders.

Anyway, Harden performs at a higher level as a first option than Butler does as a second or third option. I'm not impressed by the "lockdown defender" argument for a guy who got torched by Wade yesterday

Part of the problem with Chicago is that like clockwork, the entire team is worn down by January due to Thibs. Butler plays an insane amount of minutes too.

Some folks are really dismissing the great season Harden is having. 28, 6, 7, 2, .8 on 46%, 39% and 89% shooting. PER of 25.3. Has Houston 4th in the West despite Howard missing 13 games (and not being himself for most of the other ones due to injury), the starting PG missing 13 games and the starting PF only playing 4 games (although D-Mo has taken a step forward offensively). Everyone swore this team would be screwed if we had injuries this season, myself included. We have had tons of them, yet are still up there record wise mainly due to Harden. The team has no offensive creator when he sits...it's amazing how much responsibility he is shouldering.

He is playing exceptionally well. We shall see how he fares in the postseason, but he has certainly improved a lot this year.

Loved him since his rookie year. Klay Thompson

I remember a thread I had a while back on Klay vs Gordon Haywood. Klay has won that war

Harden now that he is giving an effort on defense. He is carrying his team, Curry carries the Warriors.

I'll say James Harden but not by a long shot. Klay is right behind him
