I think Clarkson showed signs though. He was scoring between 11-15 points in summer league

Clarkson had 3 years of college ball under his belt

Compared to guys like Nash and Curry, Russell has only 1 year of college experience while Nash had 4 and Curry had 2. Maybe an extra year for Russell wouldn't have hurt, but now he's starting his career in the big leagues a year younger.

How high do these guys go if the draft was tomorrow?

1. Towns
2. Russell
3. Okafor
4. Mudiay
5. Hezonja
6. Stanley
7. Portis
8. Porzingis
9. Oubre
10. WCS

Freaking wizard and bulls. Amazing steals. If only we could package 27 and 34 for 22. Eff.

I realize this could be a million different ways and way too early but still fun.

Poringis dropped??

no way, he is the real deal.

No if I remember correctly he was not that great in the summer league...he didn't show signs until into the season, that he might be pretty good. Randle is the one who is not that great, but im not worried about him either right now.

None of that is true. russell has shown he can easily get his shot off anytime he wants. He just hasn't been doing it much and I don't really blame him. That's not what SL is about for him.

Hope you are right. Can you explain to me like if I was a 5 year old what summer league is about??? Is it about more turnovers than assists or something like that???
Please explain and like I said I hope you are right. I like the kid and I hope he becomes a super star.

If you didn't expect Russell to come in and have a bunch of turnovers to start I don't think you have been following him very closely

and to answer your other question his main focus in SL should just be getting acclimated to the speed and size of NBA type talent

Lol the speed and size of the NBA? Summer league is a bunch of NBDL, Rookies, and second year guys that made minimal impact. What NBA speed are you talking about?

There are some NBDL players who have the athleticism to play in the NBA who could never put it together

And Mitch did his job. Got Russell to the Lakers.

Someone has a sig of him posting how when Kerr signed with the Warriors, he would ruin that team.

LOL bringing this thread back to life.

I'll admit I was among the doubters at first, but at least I said from the outset I'd be a Russell fan for as long as he puts a Laker uniform on. Russell has made that veeerrry easy, thankfully.

The Nance discussion later on is equally entertaining.

Lesson learned. On draft day, Mitch is a steely-eyed missile man.

I spent two hours last night looking back at this thread! I was staunchly pro-Okafor, but at least truly liked Russell as well. (I was of the belief that Towns wouldn't realistically be in play once his odds got to -600 to be the first pick, and then -1000 shortly thereafter.) As the draft approached, and as GT and others talked about how well the game came to Dlo and how he would fit in the modern NBA, I warmed to him more and more, even though I had reservations about what I considered to be a higher bust potential than Okafor had. I still think Okafor will be very good--he's shown flashes of that, and he's in a horrible situation in Philly and doesn't even want to be there--but I'm so happy with Dlo's progression. The Lakers were right; the kid has the "it" factor.

I still love Russell and think he'll be great for us but Mudiay is going to be extra special.

He's young and can definitely grow, but I think the Lakers passed over him because there are question marks. Mudiay tries to get to the basket with strength. But until he works on his shot, people can just play him like Rondo. To his credit, he's a good passer. Denver got a good player with respect to their draft position.

That's been my only real problem with Russell so far is he has trouble getting to the rim and finishing. We don't neccessarily need him to do that all the time but his struggles opened my eyes a bit.

But Mudiay has the same problem. He often couldn't get past defenders, but forced shots and relied on strength. He doesn't seem to finish at the rim any more consistently than Russell AND that is his game.

Yet he's still averaging 20/10 in the first two games. You're kind of making my point for me, thanks.

27. Los Angeles Lakers (from Rockets) – Larry Nance Jr. (PF, Wyoming, Sr., 22, 6-9, 227): He was an unexpected pick, but there may be some method to the Lakers' madness. The son of the former Cavs star led Wyoming to the NCAA tournament this past season after recovering from an ACL tear the previous year. He is an NBA-caliber athlete versatile enough to do a little bit of everything, from defending multiple positions, to knocking down open mid-range shots, to finishing above the rim. Marc J. Spears' grade: D.

Good thing Spears isn't a GM.
