|
|
I hope Jim is smart enough to sign him for the long run.
Quote: | Ed Davis wasn’t the flashiest acquisition of the Los Angeles Lakers’ off-season, but he has arguably been the most productive. After spending multiple years struggling to get playing time in Toronto and Memphis, Davis has flourished in an increased role with the Lakers.
Davis has a player option at the end of the season worth about $1 million and according to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News, he will exercise that option at the end of the season:
Davis said in an interview with the Los Angeles News Group that he will opt out of his player option worth around $1 million that would secure his Lakers’ future for the 2015-16 season for one specific reason.
Davis would specify his reasoning for opting out, saying he hopes to remain with the team and expressing confidence that the Lakers could turn things around:
I’m hoping for a long-term deal,” said Davis, who has until June 25 before formally deciding his move. “I’d love to return here. I know this will turn around eventually.”
In the midst of constant injuries around the team and a fluctuating rotation that has altered his minutes, Davis has remained remarkably consistent. He is averaging career highs in points (8.0), rebounds (7.3), blocks (1.1) and field goal percentage (58.4), leading the Lakers in the latter two categories.
On a team that struggles defensively, Davis has been one player that is a positive on that side of the ball and he knows his role very well. Whether or not the Lakers will retain him after the season remains to be seen.
The Lakers will have a number of draft picks and will be very active in free agency with targets such as Greg Monroe, Marc Gasol, Kevin Love and LaMarcus Aldridge. If the Lakers are fortunate enough to secure any of them, it could put Davis’ future with the Lakers in doubt. |

This is Jodie Meeks and/or Earl Clark speak.
If anything, with his change of agent to Leon Rose, should signal SELL SELL SELL.
Lakers will be pursuing the "big name" free agents first, and Davis won't wait 1-1.5 weeks on it and will sign elsewhere. So get something for him now. We won't have the Asst. GM Rob Pelinka to bail us out on this one. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Agreed. As much as I like him, it's looking like he'll be a goner after this season. |

It didn't matter who the agent was, there's no way Davis would or should take less money to stay with us. he hasn't made a ton of money, so he should secure as much money for as long as possible. we're not in position to give him that unfortunately.
so yes, move him if any reasonable deal comes along. |

Just as we all knew when he signed here.
No way he's staying at his current rate and very small chance we will pay him market value as he is nothing more than a complimentary piece and we need foundation pieces to build around first.
The downside of one-year rentals. (Besides the fact we can't get emotionally attached to a team because we're just gonna re-boot next year anyway. |

Yup.
He served his role, and now let's cash out. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I would rather sign Koufos than Davis. I guess I am thinking like Memphis did. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

I would have no problem with Davis being traded, or pretty much anyone else. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

If we re-sign Ed to a fair contract it would probably be anything from 3 yrs for 12 mill or 4 yrs for 20 mill. I think that's fair. |

That might be too much for the Lakers to offer. |

Yes, he will want MLE type of money, he might even get the MLE from someone. If we are paying that much for a big, I would want to offer it to Koufos instead, he is a legit 7 footer. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

And it would come after the Lakers pursue (and likely get rejected) the top free agents, possibly 1-1.5 week wait for Ed. He may sign for the full MLE elsewhere. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

If it's true that he switched agents he's not coming back, he's probably going to be traded. |
