Just saw this now. Why did the Nets do this trade given that Thaddeus Young is an expiring contract? Why did the Timberwolves do it?

They're just letting Garnett end his career where it started and retired as a t wolf

Why did the Wolves give up an asset to do it though?

KG might resign for another 2 years....plus he will probably use the money he earned in his NBA career to buy into the ownership group.

They need to sign Marbury and Joe Smith! Team of the future!

He's not really an asset as an expiring post deadline, plus KG probably helps them lose a cpl more games.

Although afaik KG wants to acquire 5-10%? of the TWolves, also he's probably not a bad guy to have in and around the locker room when your team is as young as theirs.

Joe Smith. Such a common name, but such a devilish one for the TWolf franchise.

I feel like some team might have been willing to give up at least a second-rounder for Young's bird rights.

I guess it makes sense for the Nets too. Young will help them in their playoff push more than Garnett would have.

Not sure Garnett would rather be on a tanking team than in the playoffs, though.

KG had a no-trade clause. He had to agree. Brooklyn may miss the playoffs, anyway.

I don't know if it makes any sense for them to bring him back, but as a Minnesota guy I love it. Wolves have nothing else, might as well have some nostalgia with their favorite son. And I do think he can contribute on the boards for them, which they need.

It would be nice to see him retire where it all got started.

But will he fight Rubio? Or is Rubio an inch too tall?
