I feel like it's a little notch in Phil Jackson's belt that he won all of those titles with assistants who were utter disasters when given head coaching gigs: Cleamons, Rambis, Shaw. Even poor Hamblen on the interim basis. It's not like he was Bill Walsh with a staff of Holmgren, Reid, Gruden, Denny Green, etc. It's a bit like how Belichick's assistants have been, for the most part, failures as head coaches. I think it shows the guy deserves a bit of credit that he doesn't always get because "Derp, anyone can win with Jordan/Shaq/Kobe."

Until Fisher gets fired, right? The only thing better than retreads are retreads that have had zero success.

Wow, can you imagine Shaw being an assistant under Fisher? Imagine going from being someone's assistant coach to an assistant coach under him.

Fisher is like actually a terrible coach though.

Like Alvin Gentry? or the countless other former ex-head coaches who serve as assistants and hope they get back on the retread merry go round?

The guy never should have publicly admitted that he couldn't relate / get through to his players.

What has Shaw done to suggest he's a good coach?

Alvin Gentry was never the coach or assistant coach of Steve Kerr.

Lawrence Frank and Jason Kidd is a better example. Look at how that turned out.

That team with largely the same core won 57 games before Shaw got his grubby paws on it.

Nuggets fire Brian Shaw

LINK

Shaw obviously didn't have the locker room. He dosen't have the cache to coach such a young team with so little talent.

This will stay with him for years and limit his upward mobility. Not a good start to head coaching possibilities.

No Andre Iguodala...........lets face it George Karl maximized the talent of that bunch.

Seems to me Shaw will be an assistant coach for life from now on.

Andre "7.6 PPG" Iguodala.

Yep. That's why I said largely.

Iggy isn't worth a 40 game swing. He's not even worth a 10 game swing. Karl did maximize the talent of that bunch but it doesn't change the fact that Shaw's coaching torpedoed that team. They were roughly a .650 team in the period between Melo was gone and Iggy came on board.

The good thing with Shaw is that at least he's not doubling down on coaching ineptitude like Byron Scott and acting like a condescending gash to boot.

Denver deserves this for firing George Karl after he led them to 57 wins and got fired for losing to Golden State. Since then we've seen that the Warriors are much tougher than people thought back then.

Denver needs to run and gun. Faried in a half court setting is worthless.

I think B-Shaw will head to New York and join Fish's coaching staff.

Great news for the tank. I think the odds of us being passed up for the #4 spot were long, but Denver was the team that concerned me most because they couldn't have possibly given less of a crap. Here's to hoping that a coaching change energizes them for the remainder of the year.
