Thought it was time to get the new season thread underway.

Interesting day so far...

Bears trade Brandon Marshall to the Jets for a 5th rounder.
MJD retires.
Reggie Wayne done as a Colt.
Panthers sign Michael Oher.
Jets re-sign David Harris
and my Chargers sign Jacoby Jones.

Shady to the bills was pretty shocking. Still waiting to see where Suh lands. Ambivalent about him on the colts given his huge contract expectations and likelihood of future suspensions.

Marshall to the Jets would mean something if only they had a QB who didn't suck. You could field the 3 best WR's in the game with a Pro Bowl line and the Jests QB's would still flounder.

Suh to Raiders would be the start of a great resurgence for Oakland!

Report: Chargers gearing up to chase Suh, Cobb, Iupati
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25097033/report-chargers-gearing-up-to-chase-suh-cobb-iupati

Don't know about Cobb of the 3 of them, I think he will get massively overpaid and I'm not sold on how much of his production is a result of playing with Rodgers and having Nelson as primary receiver.

Iupati is a great run blocker, watch a lot of Frank Gore's inside runs and you'll see his value and that SD has nothing like him currently.

Suh would instantly become our best defender, but he isn't a 3-4 NT to me, but then again I've been in favor of us switching to a 4-3 for a while now. I think it would suit Liuget & Reyes too.

Hope he's good the Colts sure love Eagles castoffs

Quote:
The Indianapolis Colts on Sunday agreed to a deal with guard Todd Herremans.

Terms were not disclosed but a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan that Herremans received a one-year deal that could be worth as much as $3.5 million.

The 32-year-old right guard had recently been released after nine seasons with the Eagles.

Originally a fourth-round pick in the 2005 draft out of Saginaw Valley State, Herremans was due to make $4 million in 2015 before his release by Philadelphia.

Herremans was, along with outside linebacker Trent Cole, the longest-tenured player on the Eagles' roster. Both players were released this offseason.

Herremans missed the second half of the 2014 season after tearing a biceps muscle during the Eagles' Oct. 26 game in Arizona. He was placed on injured reserve.

Before that, Herremans started seven games at right guard and one game at right tackle for the Eagles. Throughout his
career, Herremans started at every offensive line position except center.

I guess my Dolphins got Suh at a ludicrous price. Best case, he dominates the line to let stud pass rushers like Wake and Vernon go wild. Worst case, he keeps racking up suspensions for dirty plays and pulls an Albert Haynesworth. I hope we still have enough room because there are still plenty of holes (big target WR, Charles Clay, CB, OL, SS, LB). Not to mention we don't exactly have a coach known for discipline.

It's risky, but the Dolphins needed to make that move. Miami hasn't won a playoff game in 15 years and hasn't reached the AFC title game since Don Shula was coaching. They have their typical "not really bad, not really good" team with a solid but non-elite QB. I can't fault them for making a calculated roll of the dice on Suh.

Moves like this usually end up as the reason there hasn't been a playoff win in 15 years. I have my reservations about this move as this seems like another Stephen Ross attempt at becoming Dan Snyder. This was not the move they "needed" to make.

I hear you, but Suh has the potential (yes, the dreaded P word) to make the Dolphins an elite defensive team. Combine that with a productive offense, and the possibilities are intriguing. When the Bills splurged for Mario Williams, I sort of snickered. I'm not snickering about this one. Suh is elite against the pass and the run, and Miami has good complimentary pieces around him. I like this move for your team.

No qualms about Wake and Vernon. But the defense is sorely lacking at LB and the secondary. Wheeler and Ellerbe were expected Fireland busts. Finnegan should retire. The last Lion we got in Delmas got injured (again). The drafted CB's who were supposed to take over have busted. Suh's signing might also keep us from matching any high offers for Charles Clay, who was the only receiving threat left over 6'1" on the entire roster after Hartline was canned. Not to mention the OL is still a work in progress. I like Tannehill's improvement and he's shown he will be a good QB, but you can't expect him to continue if the line isn't improved and you keep subtracting decent targets. Haven't even touched on whether Suh will even be motivated enough to play at a high level now that he has a payday.

They made a nice deal to get Rodney Hudson from KC. Paid a huge price for him, but he's a very good center and yet to hit his peak.

It's tough to keep a Super Bowl team intact due to cap issues. NE has lost Vince Wilfork and possibly Brandon Browner in an effort to keep Revis.

The Fins shouldn't sleep on Perryman in the draft. Short and slow is what many said about Zach Thomas. Perryman is a tackling machine and his instincts make up for his slow 40.

I love Perryman, he's a big time hitter. He'll be a second rounder IMO

He's on my short list for the 2nd/3rd rounds and I remember Thomas well. Would be happy to get him there if we don't draft Kendricks. This is a pretty good WR year so we need to draft that big franchise WR. We've already cut Hartline, Wallace has been phoning it in his entire contract and could be traded/cut, Landry's a slot receiver, and we may not be able to afford to keep Clay around. Would kill to have Kevin White drop to #14, but I'd also consider DaVante Parker and Dorial Green-Beckham if the FO really wants to make Philbin's life hell.

Wonder what the cause is. He was a fierce competitor and a heck of a tackler. I know he's had the injury bug but I remember reading as recently as last month that he'd be ready for training camp.

Texans cut Andre Johnson. I guess a contending team will likely scoop him up. He may have lost a step but he's still got size, route running, and big play ability. That he even approached 1000 yards with (bleep) for QB is still impressive.
