Since 1970 only five nba franchises have repeated as champions.

1. LA Lakers
2. Detroit Pistons
3. Chicago Bulls
4. Houston Rockets
5. Miami Heat

The two franchises with at least five titles since 1970 (Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs) have failed to repeat as champions. You have to be mentally strong to repeat as champions. The Celitcs and Spurs have been mentally weak in defending their titles. Will the Spurs repeat as champions this year?

The Celtics and Spurs were mentally weak? Come on.

They're the 7th seed so they have an uphill climb.

No, please. I'm sick of the Spurs. Time for them to fade into irrelevancy.

It's pretty amazing that they would have repeated last year had Kawhi Leonard not choked on those free throws in 2013. This year they would be going for a three-peat.

But no, I think the West is just too deep this year and they've gotten too old. Kawhi Leonard is overrated.

If the make it to the Finals - probably yes. But getting there is no given at all. Difficult to see anyone survive the western conference hell.

No ... I think the probability of the Spurs repeating is less than 15%.

Notwithstanding his last 1/2 dozen games or so, Tony Parker has been a disaster for the Spurs for a while now. He's been willfully destroying that organization from the inside b/c he cannot accept his evolving role. And he's fighting the reality that he's not the focal point of the offense any longer.

Don't think they have it in them. Last year's victory should have been a repeat, this year is going to be for them like 2011 was for us. I imagine they'll flame out in the first or second rounds.

The Celtics didn't make the Finals in 2009 because KG was injured and missed the playoffs. That had nothing to do with mental toughness.

In 2010 the Lakers were physically tougher (than the 2008 Lakers) and were the defending champs so I wouldn't blame Boston for losing that series.

San Antonio probably isn't as motivated this year. They accomplished so much last year by having the best record, and getting revenge on teams that beat them before (OKC and Miami).

When you look at that list, many of the teams that repeated had major superstars. Chicago had MJ/Pippen, LA had Magic/Kareem/Worthy/Shaq/Kobe, Houston had Olajuwon (and Drexler in the second year), and Miami had Lebron/Wade/Bosh.

The 2010 Lakers also benefitted from facing weak teams for that entire playoffs. Didn't really deserve to win that title.

Gotta disagree with you here. The only easy series we had that year was against the Jazz, and even then, we only swept them because someone(I think it was Wes Matthews) missed a buzzer-beater tip in that would've won them game 3. OKC won 50 games as an 8th seed and it took a near buzzer beater from Pau to prevent them from taking us to 7 games. The Suns team that year was the best one since their SSOL run. And then, of course, there was the long series against the Celtics. They DEFINITELY deserved that title.

Who was more deserving of being champion that year than the Lakers?

With questions like this, it is usually wise to take the field.

They won't make it out of the 1st round. I think the Grizzlies will beat the Hawks in the finals.
