Ryan Kelly at PF is a vastly different conversation than him at the SF spot.
Except that doesn't explain the shooting percentage. That would only explain the inability to defend. You can put Dirk at PG he will still make his shots.
Ryan bass mouth Kelly will be out of the league within 2-3 years top. He's no better then sacre IMO.
Slow, no foot speed , not even a great deadly shooter, terrible defender , Can't defend the 3 or the 4 , Doesn't rebound , has a 1 inch vertical.. I'm a die hard laker fan like all of you but I'm not delusional.
Lol@ using him the wrong way x100000 ..... How should Luke Walton 2.0 be used? He does nothing well.
Before injuries destroyed him, Luke Walton was light years better than Ryan Kelly could ever dream of being.

At a crappier percentage. Never mind that you are justifying this by using a superstar as an example. _________________ Kobe "I mean Phil's been here, and -- to be honest with you -- we might have, in all the years I've been with Phil, (had) maybe three defensive drills the entire time"

At a crappier percentage? Teams should let their PG defend Dirk then.
I'm still trying figure how him playing SF makes him airball 5 foot shots? His fandom/defenders want him to be good so bad that they are using every excuse. He looked decent under Antoni at times but who didn't? Kelly is not a rotation player on a good team. Sorry.
Yeah, Kelly has shot horribly this season. His TS% is .436.
On the other hand, Kobe isn't all that much better at .477.
Clearly, Kelly shouldn't be invited back for the sake of the team. The question is: Should Kobe?
I honestly don't know the answer to that question.
That's why you're picking your nose behind a computer screen and not in a front office making decisions. Although Jim Buss might be doing the same thing to be fair.

Kelly is playing out of position. He was drafted to fit in MDA high pace offense as a stretch PF. He's now playing in a slow pace offense as a SF. Some players need the right system to play in, especially role players.
The fact he's suppose to be a stretch for in MDA's system doesn't explain why he can't hit an open 3 now to save his life. C'mon people...the truth is he's pathetic.

R. Kelly needs to bulk up and play some hard defense. If his shot is off, he can make up for it by being there in the paint mixing it up. I don't see nothin' wrong with a little bump and grind.
Not sure if Ryan Kelly is as good a slasher to the basket as Chandler Parsons, but I just looked up their draft profiles and Kelly has a greater standing reach than Parsons:
Reason I note that is Chandler Parsons used to always pump fake from behind the three point line last year (he was a totally erratic brick machine from there last year for Houston), then start dribble drive at basket, but when he got into paint, he would hold the ball in one hand way up in the air (kind of like what Jordan Hill does at elbow when looking to give the ball to someone), and then slam the ball at rim.
It was funny because you would see all these players in the paint, then the ball floating just a bit above the fray with Chandler Parsons hand just palming the ball above defense.
Lin and Parsons also used to work really well with each other in Houston, because when Lin drove into paint and his drive was cut off, he would spin around on his pivot foot, see Parsons standing behind three point line and either casually toss it in that direction, or Parsons would start a secondary cut / misdirection attack into paint when defense had collapsed on Lin. Parsons was a secondary slasher to rim once Lin's initial drive into paint had disrupted the initial set defense a bit.
This YouTube video kind of looks like how Lin and Parsons would play off each other a bit, though not best examples (I remember Parsons being on same side of court that Lin attacked from, and the pump fake three for drive and slam typically were into a more congested paint):
Parsons as secondary slasher / misdirection play after Lin drive had initially disrupted defense:
Three point pump fake and Statue of Liberty drive to rim (paint used to be alot more congested with defenders plays I faintly remember):
(Lin and Parsons always seemed to work really well with each other, and wonder if Clarkson, because of his long arms and incredible hops, could also kind of work well with Lin in similar manner (Clarkson being much more explosive slasher into paint than Kelly or Parsons).

Ryan Kelly is no chandler parsons. Parsons' ball handling, slashing and rebounding abilities are all far superior. And based on this year's stats, it appears that Parsons is a much better shooter too.
